🌍 International Context
🔹 Each year, over 700,000 people die by su***de worldwide — that’s 1 life lost every 40 seconds.
🔹 Since 2003, World Su***de Prevention Day has been observed on 10th September, led by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) in collaboration with WHO.
🇮🇳 India Snapshot
📊 In 2022, India reported 171,000 su***des, the highest ever recorded, with a rate of 12.4 per 100,000.
📌 Youth aged 15–29 are at the highest risk.
📌 Women in India account for nearly 37% of global female su***de deaths.
🌾 Maharashtra – Local Insights
⚠ In 2019, Maharashtra registered 18,916 su***des, among the highest in India.
⚠ Between Jan–Jun 2025, 520 farmer su***des were reported in Marathwada alone — a 20% rise over 2024.
👉 This reflects deep issues of debt, distress, and the urgent need for community & policy support.
