The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University, hosted two insightful guest lectures on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for Semester 5 students, bringing diverse perspectives from academia and real-world practices.
On 14th August 2025, Brigadier Jeewan Rajpurohit delivered a motivational session that connected CSR with the intrinsic human value of giving back to society. Through personal anecdotes and impactful case studies like Mahindra’s Nanhi Kali initiative and ITC’s farmer development programs, he highlighted how corporations play a pivotal role in national development, framing CSR as both a moral responsibility and a legal mandate.
The second session was held on 18th August 2025. Dr. Gayathri H provided a comprehensive academic overview of CSR’s evolution—from the Friedman Model to Carroll’s Pyramid—while also explaining India’s legal framework mandating 2% CSR spending. She emphasized CSR as a strategic advantage for businesses and illustrated real-world challenges through the case of Coca-Cola’s non-compliance, stressing the importance of ethics, transparency, and shared responsibility.
Together, these sessions deepened students’ understanding of CSR as not just a corporate obligation, but a blend of ethics, law, and social impact—where businesses contribute meaningfully to sustainable development while staying rooted in human values.
