Case-Study: The Bigo

- As part of the ‘Structures’ module of the studio unit, students study innovative architectural structures as group work. Students try to analyse the structural system, understand details, and make a working model to capture the behaviour of each structural element of the system.
- The "Bigo" is a notable structure in Genoa, Italy, designed by architect Renzo Piano. The design is inspired by a derrick crane (Bigo) that used to be anchored at the harbour. The Bigo is made up of 8 masts (Boom). The membrane structure (60 X 40 M) serves as an exposition plaza and the panoramic lift offers a 360-degree view of the Old Port and Genoa's historic center.
