Introducing the Double-Walled Ev***rative Cooling Façade System (DWECS)—a low-cost, sustainable, and completely passive way to beat the heat in hot, dry climates like Ahmedabad.

Traditional insulation only slows down heat entering a building. DWECS actively pushes it out! By using v***r pressure deficit, it draws moisture through the wall to drive natural ev***rative cooling.

The Results from Testing:
- Slashed indoor air temperatures by up to 10.25°C (with a 3°C average drop).

- Lime mortar outperformed cement, keeping spaces 6% cooler.

- Perfectly balanced indoor humidity right in the 54–56% comfort zone.

Mentored by Dr. Rashmin Damle, this incredible innovation has been officially registered and published by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry!

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Quaid Doongerwala as the next Dean of Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University.

Quaid Doongerwala is an architect and educator with over 28 years of experience in architectural practice and design education. His Mumbai-based practice, DCOOP, established in 2003 with Shilpa Ranade, has developed a strong reputation for its context-driven design approach across institutional campuses, housing, retail, and master planning.

Alongside his professional work, Quaid has been deeply engaged with architectural education. He was the Founding Director of the Interior Design program at ISDI Parsons, Mumbai, Visiting Faculty member at KRVIA and the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai and has contributed to academic discourse as a jury member, reviewer, and as the Charles Correa Chair at the Goa College of Architecture. He is also a founding associate of PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research), an interdisciplinary collective engaged with urban research and practice.

A CEPT alumnus, Quaid has completed his undergraduate studies in architecture from CEPT University, followed by post-graduate studies in Indian Aesthetics from the University of Mumbai.

DCOOP Architects Mumbai

𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 (𝗕𝗢𝗥) 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Board of Review (BOR) for the Spring 2026 semester was conducted at CEPT University in the month of May.

47 leading practitioners and academics from across the country were invited as BOR members, to review the work produced by students across 5 undergraduate and 17 postgraduate programs.

CEPT deeply values the time and efforts invested by the BOR members in the review process. The feedback received is essential in strengthening our programs and ensuring we uphold our commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement.

𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲

Anjali Suthar (FA UG ​’22), a student in the Bachelor of Architecture program at the Faculty of Architecture, and Dhavlesh Suthar (FD PG ​’20), an alum of the Master of Design (Building Products and Systems) program at the Faculty of Design, participated in the Design Dolls Challenge 2026, organised by Aara Play. Their project, ‘5 Keepers of Balance,’ was awarded the Gold Winner in the Best Concept category.

The Design Dolls Challenge is a national-level initiative that encourages young designers to bring India’s stories to life through design, play, and purpose, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and emotional connection.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Two weeks of intense juries recently concluded at CEPT Campus, marking the culmination of Spring Semester 2026. Students from all 5 Faculties presented their work to experts from various fields. Through rigorous discussions, students and faculty members reflected on a semester of inquiry and accomplishment.

From public space design, urban governance to mass housing, narratives, urban waterfronts, environmental design, geotechnical principles, and passive cooling technologies - among many other themes - the work showcased conceptual depth, innovative representation, and a culture of critique and collaboration. A distillation of this work is presented at the CEPT Summer Exhibition, from 12 to 16 May.

𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗨 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗸

CEPT University and Autodesk India Pvt. Ltd. signed an MoU on 28 April aimed at developing technology-enabled education, research, and industry engagement. This partnership unites Autodesk’s global leadership in design software with CEPT’s expertise in the built environment. It aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, particularly in areas of BIM-enabled workflows and new digital initiatives. It goes beyond routine access to software that is already available to all educational institutions in the country.

𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Summer Exhibition 2026 was inaugurated at CEPT on 11 May. The exhibition is a culmination of work produced during the Spring Semester from intensive studio-based learning.

This year’s exhibition showcases the work of 96 studio units, conducted by 167 faculty members. It brings together projects from all faculties - Architecture, Design, Planning, Technology, Management, and CEPT Foundation Program, offering a comprehensive view of the University’s interdisciplinary and practice-oriented pedagogy.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof. Barjor Mehta, President, in the presence of faculty members, students, and staff.

The exhibition is open to all till 16 May from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, at the FA Building, CEPT Campus.

Bernard Kohn donates his collection to CEPT Archives

Bernard Kohn generously donated his architectural works, including some of his early pedagogical work at the School of Architecture, now CEPT University, to the CEPT Archives. The contribution process was finalised by Kartikeya Shodhan, Head of CEPT Archives and Saman Quraishi, Assistant Professor, CEPT University, in May 2024.
