Call for Papers
Special Issue: Impact of Climate Change on Virtual and Green Water in Arid Watersheds
The International Journal of Hydro Climatic Engineering invites original research articles, critical reviews, technical notes, and case studies for a forthcoming Special Issue on “Impact of Climate Change on Virtual and Green Water in Arid Watersheds.”
Arid and semi-arid watersheds are particularly vulnerable to climate-driven shifts in precipitation, evapotranspiration, drought frequency, land-use dynamics, groundwater dependence, and agricultural water demand. These changes directly affect green water—the soil moisture available for vegetation and rain-fed production—and virtual water—the water embedded in agricultural, industrial, and traded products.
Understanding the interconnected roles of climate variability, watershed processes, food production, trade, and water allocation is essential for strengthening water, food, energy, and ecosystem security in water-limited regions. This Special Issue seeks to advance interdisciplinary research, modelling approaches, decision-support tools, and policy perspectives that can support climate-resilient management of arid watersheds.

Why Emil Julius Gumbel’s Statistics of Extremes still matters today

This classic book is far more than a statistics text. It laid important foundations for understanding rare and extreme events — the kind that matter most in flood risk, climate change, infrastructure design, and environmental planning.

For those working in water resources, hydroinformatics, and climate studies, its relevance is especially strong. Extreme value theory helps us estimate unusual but high-impact events like intense rainfall, heatwaves, and floods, which are becoming increasingly important in a changing climate.

A timeless book for anyone interested in the science of extremes, risk, and uncertainty.

The book’s strongest point is its practical orientation: it combines theory with case studies, which makes it useful for researchers, students, and professionals working on watershed management and climate-related risk.

It is especially valuable for readers interested in peri-urban watershed management, where climate change and urbanization make vulnerability assessment and mitigation increasingly important.

The scope also aligns well with modern water-resources practice because it connects analytical methods with real-world intervention planning rather than treating hydroinformatics as a purely technical exercise.

Overall, this looks like a strong reference for anyone working in water resources, hydroinformatics, and environmental resilience, especially those looking for an applied, interdisciplinary perspective.
