Internship highlight 🎥

IsraelPro Intern Maddy from fall 2022 was volunteering at Kuchinate, an arts-based economic and psychosocial collective for African asylum-seeking women in Israel. In her time volunteering for a nonprofit, Maddy contributed to the development of Israeli society and aided vulnerable women to rebuild their lives and build resilience and economic independence through developing their handicraft skills, commercial, and administrative skills.

Our IsraelPro participants volunteered last week to create art packs for children from Kibbutz Be’eri who have gone through unimaginable atrocities on October 7th.

In these times of darkness, we find moments to come together and support one another. Our IsraelPro participants coordinated a soccer game with children and families who were evacuated from Gaza border towns.

My name is Jonas, I am a participant on IsraelPro, Masa Israel Journey and on October 7th, 2023 I was forced into my stairwell which serves as a bomb shelter by rocket fire from Gaza. There was a loud bang, and my building shook. Within minutes I heard constant sirens and could see the police and fire lights. The building two blocks away from me, where friends of mine were living was hit in southern Tel Aviv. Thankfully, they escaped unharmed. These are some of the darkest days Israel has ever seen. I pray for peace and my heart and prayers are with the soldiers and the families of all those who lost someone. I am deeply hurt. But the Jewish soul always has and always will live on. Am Israel Chai.

Oi, meu nome é Yasmin, sou brasileira e tenho 20 anos. Estou agora em Israel, morando em Tel Aviv, pois consegui uma ótima oportunidade de estágio aqui.
Na manhã do dia 7 de outubro, estava em um passeio quando Israel foi atacado pela primeira vez. Precisei então voltar rapidamente para casa e, quando ainda estava no trajeto, soaram as sirenes. A condução que estava me levando, junto com um grupo de jovens de 17/18 anos, precisou parar no meio da rua. Apavorados e ainda dentro do ônibus, pudemos ouvir os mísseis que impiedosamente atingiam Tel Aviv, bem ao nosso lado.

Hi, my name is Yasmin, I'm Brazilian and I'm 20 years old. I'm now in Israel, living in Tel Aviv, as I got a great internship opportunity here.
On the morning of October 7th, I was on a walk when Israel was attacked for the first time. I then needed to quickly return home, and when I was still on the way, the sirens sounded. The driver that was taking me, along with a group of 17/18 year olds, had to stop in the middle of the street. Terrified and still inside the bus, we could hear the missiles that mercilessly hit Tel Aviv, right next to us.

Our interns come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds. IsraelPro team works hard to find an internship placement that meets participant’s expectations for the program. Our interns have worked in different fields from marketing and cybersecurity to animal science and education. An internship structure depends on the employer but generally interns are expected to work 25-35 hours a week Sunday to Wednesday. The internship’s goal is to provide valuable skills to progress in the career.

"El programa IsraelPro de me dio la oportunidad de hacer un internship en una prestigiosa firma de Arquitectura e Ingenieria, en Tel Aviv, Israel.

Yo formaba parte del equipo de Ingeniería Mecánica, Eléctrica y Plomería, donde se me asignaban tareas que me ayudaban a adquirir diversas herramientas para desenvolverme en el mundo laboral y sobre todo en el mundo de la Ingeniería.

Usaba AutoCAD para completar diseños de P&ID, hacía análisis de reportes de pruebas que se realizaban en las estaciones subterráneas del tren ligero de Tel Aviv y tuve la oportunidad de estar presente en las inspecciones que se realizaban en campo en las estaciones.

Además hice amigos de parte del programa de Young Judaea con quienes hasta el día de hoy tengo contacto y aprecio mucho y en mi oficina siempre fui bien recibido, tratado como un miembro más del equipo que mas que un equipo de trabajo se sentía como una familia".

"Young Judaea's IsraelPro internship program gave me the opportunity to do an internship at a prestigious Architecture and Engineering firm, IBI Group, in Tel Aviv, Israel.

I was part of the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Engineering team, where I was assigned tasks that helped me acquire various tools to function in the world of work and especially in the world of Engineering.

I was using AutoCAD to complete P&ID designs, I was doing analysis of test reports going on in the Tel Aviv underground light rail stations, and I had the opportunity to be present at the field inspections going on at the stations.

I also made friends from the program, with whom to this day I have contact and appreciate a lot. I was always well received at the office, treated as a member of the team, and it felt like a family to me".

This week our Spring 2023 program is coming to the end. Each of the interns had a unique experience in Israel with its own challenges and learning opportunities. We all established a connection with this beautiful country and met incredible people on the program.

This past Thursday, we went to Mizpe Ramon in the Judean desert. We parked at a beautiful camp spot and made Israeli barbeque which included grilled veggies, hummus, pitas, and Israeli salad. After dinner, we stargazed and discussed how our experience in Israel had been so far 🌌
