✨This week's Human of TINAU is Massimiliano, who is currently studying in our TLV intensive Hebrew course and online beginner Arabic course ✨ "Hi, I am Massimiliano. In 2024, I moved from Italy to Tel Aviv after being awarded the President’s Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Jewish Art at Bar-Ilan University. My research focuses on aesthetics and art theory, specifically examining interactions between Jews and Muslims in the Maghreb. My interest in this topic began during my studies in Philosophy and Science of Religions in Italy and deepened while living between Spain and Morocco over the past ten years. Currently, I am enrolled in Hebrew and Arabic courses at TINAU, as I believe that language is one of the most meaningful ways to understand cultures from within. Studying these two languages allows me to engage more deeply with the shared histories and cultural exchanges that have connected Jewish and Muslim communities for centuries, including a common language of beauty expressed through art, literature, music, architecture and everyday life."

This month This is Not an Ulpan (TINAU) and the HUC Jewish Language Project are collaborating for Word of the Week 🗣

The HUC Jewish Language Project is a peoplehood initiative that documents endangered and emerging Jewish languages, raises awareness about the diversity of the Jewish people, and creates educational resources to strengthen intergenerational and intercommunal connections.

TINAU is an alternative language school in Israel/Palestine, led by Palestinian and Jewish educators. We teach through critical pedagogy to encourage students to engage critically with their own identities and the complexities of the land with a focus on social justice and challenging status quos.
