Love meeting a bunch of new kids and caregivers to focus on fun activities! Especially when it revolves around one of my favorite books, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury. Today we focused on the long wavy grass! Hey everyone!
Sorry I haven't posted a lot lately. I was going through some difficult personal times which I will post about soon.
During my small hiatus I have had the time to reflect and think about what Sense 'n Play means to me and how I want it to grow. I have a lot of fun new projects in the works and will be posting all about the new and improved Sense 'n Play!
I can't wait to share with everyone in the coming days!!!
Love a good snow fall fight? Ice skating? So do snowmen. That's why each snowman (and snow woman) looks a little droopy the next day. They go out when no one is looking and do all these fun activities.
You will need:
*Paper
*Bowl
*Glue
*Shaving cream foam (not gel)
*Large paint brush
*Paper
*Cut outs, markers, googly eyes
Place some glue and shaving cream in a bowl (you'll want about equal parts). Mix with paint brush until the consistency is still foamy, but a bit thick/droopy from the glue. Take the mixture on a brush, or with your hands, and place into the paper. Remember, this snowman is melted. Shape does not matter. Once you have your blob, place different snowman accessories on such as a hat, googly eyes, scarf, and so on. You can also feel free to draw these accessories on once dried. Let the mixture fry on the paper. It should dry to a puffy paint texture.

It's winter! Time to watch the snow fall and cozy up with a blanket!
It might not snow where I live, but I still love the snow!
This project is particularly good for working on those fine motor skills.
Encourage your child to place the rock salt with this hands instead of dumping it on like I did. 🙈
Either way, making the shapes with the glue will be amazing for them.
The children will also love to feel the texture once the glue dries. It feels amazing. What shapes will your child create?
You will need:
*Paper
*Glue in a squeeze bottle
*Rock salt
*Food coloring or water color paint
*A thin dropper or thin paint brush
*Glitter (optional)
Squeeze some glue on the paper in the shape of a snowflake. Remember, all snowflakes are different in shapes, size, and design. Place the rock salt on top of the glue, dump excess into a bowl for other projects. Use a dropper or paint brush to drop some food coloring onto the salt. Watch the color spread.
*Notes*
You can use regular table salt, but rock salt has a nicer effect.
It feels awesome once dried.
This project really tunes into fine motor skills.
Feel free to use gel food coloring after watering it down.
If you don't keep food coloring in the house, use water color paint.

It's Sukkot! Such a wonderful holiday! A holiday which commemorates living in huts in our time in the desert. It also doubles as a harvest festival.
Since it can be a bit difficult for kids to help build a real sukkah, I thought it might be fun, and delicious, to create an edible one for kids to bring inside the sukkah as a special dessert! Plus, it's always fun to play with food. ;)
You will need:
*Tea biscuits
*Peanut butter
*Assorted candies
*Pretzel rods
-Place a thin layer of peanut butter on the biscuits and attach the assorted candies.
-Next place the peanut butter on the edge of the biscuits and place together.
-Then place the pretzel rods on top
-Finally, eat it and enjoy!
**Notes**
Use any substitutions necessary!
Instead of peanut butter, use date spread, hummus, chocolate spread, marshmallow fluff, or any other sticky substance.
Use sliced grapes and thinly peeled carrots for the decorations
Celery sticks and leaves for the roof
And any sturdy vegetable or fruit for the walls (I would recommend raw beetroot or kohlrabi...maybe a sturdy red pepper)

The point is to have fun and enjoy! Get a bit messy, let your child spread the peanut butter on with their fingers. It's all fun!

It's honey time!
Isn't it fascinating the way bees make honey? I think so! They have their own little factory, also known as a beehive, to keep it in until it's ready to use!
Today we can help our little bee friends make more hives so we can have more honey!
This project is super simple!
All you will need is
*Yellow paint
*Paper
*A marker
Optional to use other materials such as a sponge, market cap, or bubble wrap.
First you'll need to draw a beehive. Then dip your fingers into the paint and make little honey spots in the beehive. With a larger finger, you can also make little bees flying around.
Let's try making they honey spots with a sponge, bubble wrap, or marker cap. Show me if you have other materials you plan to you!
This project is good for all ages and focuses on the touch sensory. Feeling the paint on our skin and a sponge both when it's dry and wet from paint!

Last time I posted about oobleck, I was making mock snow so the children can learn what it's like to make a snowball. This time we colored the oobleck blue to represent the ocean. The kid then put toys in to sink them and then had to find the toys trapped in the oobleck! This non-newtonian fluid is very versatile for different projects. It can be mud, an ocean, snow, or just plain fun. What will you do with your oobleck?
I had so much fun creating and playing with oobleck with Hauptman of Baby Base today! It was wonderful working with you and your class! This is honestly one of my favorite activities.
