The Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies had the privilege of hosting Mr. Michael Eisenstadt, Director of the Military and Security Studies Program at the The Washington Institute for Near East Policy , for a lecture titled "War Termination Challenges: from to ." During his presentation, Mr. Eisenstadt examined the strategic challenges of ending modern conflicts, drawing on the cases of Iran and the . He discussed the complexities of achieving military and political objectives, establishing post-conflict deterrence, and managing the broader regional and international implications of war termination. The lecture concluded with a thought-provoking discussion, providing participants with valuable insights into one of the most pressing strategic issues facing the today.

"As part of the 2026 BESA Internship Program, the BESA Interns traveled to the to gain a deeper understanding of the region's strategic and human dimensions. The visit included the Music Festival memorial, Kibbutz Kissufim, and the memorial site in Sderot, where participants learned about the events of and their lasting impact on the affected communities. By engaging directly with these sites, the interns connected their academic study of security and strategy with the realities on the ground. The visit was widely regarded as both informative and deeply meaningful, providing valuable context for their research and enriching their understanding of the challenges facing Israel."

Today, we were honored to host Iddo Netanyahu at the BESA Center, marking 50 years since . As part of the event, Iddo Netanyahu delivered a special lecture on the historic rescue mission and its significance in Israeli history. He shared insights into the operation, during which his brother, Yonatan Netanyahu, was killed while commanding the rescue forces. The lecture provided a unique personal perspective on the operation and highlighted the values of leadership, courage, dedication, and sacrifice that shaped this extraordinary mission.

During the month of May, Professor Eitan Shamir participated in the international economic forum “The Startup Nation Model – Encouraging Creativity and Entrepreneurship,” held in Sofia, where he spoke alongside Nobel Prize laureate Professor Dan Shechtman.

The event was organized by the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), the Friends of Israel in Bulgaria organization “Negev,” and the American Jewish Committee (AJC).

Special thanks to the Ambassador of Israel to Bulgaria, former MK Yossi Levi Sfari, and the embassy staff for their warm hospitality and support throughout the visit.

During his stay, Professor Shamir met with Professor Dr. Dimitrov, Professor Oskar Aalek, H.E. Victor Melamed, and Professor Krushkov, who contributed greatly to the organization and success of the event, as well as to advancing the dialogue on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

At the beginning of May, Professor Eitan Shamir participated in the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece, in a fascinating panel titled “The Eastern Mediterranean in Search of a New Security Architecture.”

Together with Israel’s Ambassador to Greece, Noam Katz, and Panagiotis Mihalos, and under the excellent moderation of Athanasios Katsikidis, the discussion focused on the regional implications of the war with Iran, the evolving relations between Israel, Greece, and Turkey, and the broader strategic dynamics shaping the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Delphi Forum continues to establish itself as one of the leading international platforms for meaningful policy and strategic discussions, bringing together leaders, diplomats, academics, and experts from around the world in a unique setting for open exchange of ideas.

Special thanks to Ambassador Maya Solomou, Ambassador of Greece to Israel, for her kind invitation and for her continued efforts to strengthen the important relationship between Greece and Israel.
