Jerusalem is a city you can spend a lifetime trying to understand.

As part of orientation month, our fellows spent the day exploring the Old City, visiting the Kotel, Dome of the Rock, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

We begin the fellowship with experiences like this because understanding Israel means engaging with its history, religions, communities, and complexity from the very start. The outing offered a deeper look at why Jerusalem holds such profound meaning for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the many stories that exist within one small space.

A lot to take in. A lot more to keep learning about.

Applications for the 2027-28 Social Change Fellowship open on October 13!

The Yahel Social Change Fellowship is for people who want to do more than visit Israel. It’s for people who want to work alongside a community, build real relationships, and leave with a deeper understanding of the place they’ve spent nine months calling home.
Five days a week in community placements.
Learning days, seminars, Hebrew and Arabic, travel, reflection, and plenty of moments that challenge what you thought you knew.

As we enter a new year, may we keep learning, growing, and finding new ways to show up for the people and communities around us.

This week we kicked off the 2026–27 Yahel Social Change Fellowship!

Our new fellows have arrived from all over the world bringing different stories, experiences, and connections to service.

On their first day, we dove into conversations about service, values, and started getting to know the people we’ll share the next 10 months with.

We can’t wait to see what they bring to this year.

And now, we’re heading into our first Shabbat together.
