I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs. I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and, at school, we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cous

in to sell on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. And then came the thought: wouldn't it be nice if people could buy genuine Aran knits without having to come all the way out here?! So I started making some items which would be nice and light and not cost too much to post (keeping costs down for my customers : ))

Bill Doyle (1925–2010) was one of Ireland's most celebrated documentary and artistic photographers, famously remembered as "Ireland's Cartier-Bresson". He spent over half a century using a Leica camera to capture spontaneous, natural, and respectful black-and-white snapshots of everyday life. His photography served as a critical visual portal to a traditional, rural way of Irish life that was actively fading away. God Ibless and rest his soul.

Did I leave the best for last? 😄 I dug out some more old photos (originally taken on film) of the Races on Inis Oírr, and also included this photo of ALL the children in the primary school that year (1993, if memory serves). Lots of lovely faces!
