❗️Important update for Associate Members ❗️

Associate members currently working towards assessment should note that the GAIAC Single and Two-Handed Syllabi (2023 version) will no longer be used for assessments after 1 June 2026. From that date, assessments will move to the 2025 syllabi.

To support those who have been progressing through the pathway for some time, Regional Spring Assessment events will take place during May 2026. These sessions provide an opportunity to complete your application and finalise your award under the current syllabus.

Key dates and next steps

🟒 Assessment applications must be submitted by 4 April 2026.

🟒 Following this date, assessors and suitable locations will be arranged.

🟒 The assessment application form is attached.

Please ensure your form is fully completed, payment is made, and your portfolio is complete before submission.

If you have been working towards assessment and are ready to take the next step, we encourage you to submit your application in good time.

Please reach out to your regional representative if you require further support here.

This post will be followed by an email to all associate members with a registered email address.

Easily one of my favourite wet flies when it comes to trout. Has caught in a variety of places for me and one I wouldn’t leave home without. My variation on the classic Kildevil Spider.

Interest in our new Guide Syllabus 🎣

One of the real highlights of The British Fly Fair International was the level of interest in GAIA’s new Guide Syllabus.

We had many good conversations with anglers and instructors keen to understand how the syllabus works, what it supports, and how it fits into a professional pathway.

The syllabus has been developed to provide clear structure, consistency, and practical grounding, supporting guides and instructors in delivering high-quality, effective guiding with confidence.

We currently have 6 guide courses available:

βœ… Salmon
βœ… Sea Trout
βœ… Predator
βœ… Saltwater
βœ… River Trout and Grayling
βœ… Stillwater Small and Large

If you’d like more information, or want to talk through whether the Guide Syllabus is right for you and what the next steps might be, please get in touch:

[email protected]

We’re always happy to answer questions and continue the conversation.

On a stroll lately around my locality. Walked over the bridge and noticed this nice looking spot. Years ago this was only a tiny stream. It’s amazing to see what has happened over the last few winters with flooding and all. I can’t wait to see what fish are in this run come March 17th. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

Managed to whip up a few of these Squirrel and Blues this evening with a nice green butt, in this case on a size 12 silver double.
Made me think about the Summer months when I get to use it in pursuit of Sea Trout hopefully.
Hopefully a grilse or two might find it attractive too 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

Starting to wonder if this rain is ever going to stop. Will I ever get out to do some casting practice again 😬😬😬😬

Messing around with some other colours this evening. It’s a long time since I used a salmon fly with some purple in it. Maybe this purple cascade will do loads of business this year in coloured water.

There’s not much else to do on a wet day like this other than sit at the desk, tie a few flies and dream about all the fish you’re going to catch this season. Who doesn’t love a nice claret bumble 🐟🐟🐟
