Brackloon NS Annual School Duathlon

On a beautiful June day, our 5th and 6th class pupils took part in our annual Brackloon NS Duathlon. The challenge began with a 4km run through the beautiful Brackloon Woods before the pupils transitioned to an 8km cycle through Brackloon, Cloona, Prospect and Loughloon, finishing back at Brackloon NS.

It was wonderful to see our pupils rise to the challenge with such enthusiasm, determination and resilience. In completing the course, they demonstrated not only their fitness and strength but also the confidence and positive attitude they have developed throughout the year. They should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.

For many pupils, this was their first experience of taking part in a duathlon. We hope it has inspired them to continue setting personal goals, embracing new challenges and enjoying the lifelong benefits of being active. Maybe this was the first step towards taking part in events such as the Sea2Summit or Gaelforce West in the years ahead! đź’Ş

At Brackloon NS, we believe that education is about much more than the classroom. Events like this help to develop resilience, perseverance, teamwork, self-belief and a growth mindset—qualities that will stand our pupils in good stead throughout their lives.

A sincere thank you to our wonderful past pupils and parent volunteers who generously gave their time to marshal the course and ensure the event was conducted safely. Your support, encouragement and community spirit made the day possible, and we are deeply grateful for your help.

Finally, congratulations to our fantastic 5th and 6th class pupils. You embraced every kilometre with smiles, determination and encouragement for one another. We hope the memories of this special day stay with you for many years to come, and that it marks the beginning of a lifelong enjoyment of running, cycling and challenging yourselves to achieve even more.

Well done, everyone!

On the last day of term we said a heartfelt thank you to Marie-Clare Gill as she finishes her time in Brackloon NS to begin an exciting new chapter as Principal of Myna NS.

On behalf of our pupils, staff, Board of Management, parents and the entire school community, we extend our sincere gratitude for Marie-Clare's outstanding contribution to Brackloon NS over the past 19 years. Throughout her time with us, she immersed herself in every aspect of school life, always placing the children at the heart of everything she did. Her dedication, professionalism, kindness and enthusiasm have left a lasting impact on our school, and she will be greatly missed by all.

While we are sad to see Marie-Clare leave, we are immensely proud of her appointment and know she will be an exceptional school leader. We wish her every happiness and success as Principal of Myna NS and look forward to following her many achievements in the years ahead.

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, Marie-Clare, and thank you for everything.

6th Class Skelp Walk

Our 6th Class pupils recently enjoyed a fabulous walk along the Skelp Path.

This walk has become a valued tradition for our 6th Class each year at this time. It gives the children an opportunity to challenge themselves, enjoy the fresh air and appreciate the spectacular beauty of the landscape around them.

Along the way, the pupils were encouraged to pause, reflect and take in the wonder of the natural world. It was a chance to think about our place in nature, to appreciate the environment we are so fortunate to have on our doorstep, and to consider the many different ways people understand and make sense of the world around us.

As another school year comes to an end, we would like to thank our wonderful 6th Class pupils for the positive contribution they have made to life in Brackloon NS. They have been excellent role models for our younger pupils, showing kindness, friendship, leadership and enthusiasm throughout their time with us.

We wish each and every one of them every success and happiness as they begin the next exciting chapter of their journey in secondary school. While they will always be part of the Brackloon NS family, we look forward to following their future achievements and celebrating all that lies ahead for them.

Go n-éirí an bóthar libh!

💚❤️ Best of luck, Éoin!❤️💚

Everyone at Brackloon NS would like to wish the very best of luck to Éoin O'Raghallaigh, captain of our Cumann na mBunscol Mini 7s hurling team, who led the team to county final success earlier this year.

This Saturday, Éoin will have the honour of representing Mayo in the Cumann na mBunscol exhibition match at half-time during the Galway v Cork All-Ireland Senior Hurling Semi-Final in Croke Park.

We are incredibly proud of Éoin on this wonderful achievement and know he will be a fantastic ambassador for both Brackloon NS, Westport hurling club and Mayo.

We are also immensely proud of all our hurling and camogie players, who represented our school with great skill, commitment and sportsmanship throughout a fantastic season.

Enjoy every minute of this special occasion, Éoin!

Pat Cox Hurling Tournament

We had a fantastic day recently at the Pat Cox Hurling Tournament. Brackloon NS entered three teams, and we were delighted that two of our teams came away with the Cup and Shield trophies.

The standard of hurling throughout the day was excellent, with highly competitive and sporting games between all of the participating schools. It was wonderful to see such skill, determination and teamwork on display.

A huge thank you to Westport Hurling Club for organising another outstanding tournament, and to all the referees, volunteers and organisers whose hard work made the day such a success.

We would also like to sincerely thank the Cox family for their continued sponsorship of the tournament. Pat was a passionate supporter of hurling in Westport, and he would undoubtedly have been immensely proud of the wonderful hurling, sportsmanship and enjoyment shown by all the young players throughout the day.

We were delighted to welcome back past pupils Kate and Lisa last week, alongside their teammate Fionnuala.

Thank you to Kate, Lisa and Fionnuala for taking the time to visit the school. They are fantastic role models for our pupils and we congratulate them on their continued success.
