2018 saw the Waterford Institute of Rockology materialise unto the world and bring heavy metal back to the City of Vikings with fiery, metallic vengeance. The scorch marks and ruined buildings still lie across the city.
Looking back over the year, we've had some kick-ass shows featuring album releases, lazer-lights, exclusive songs, co**se paint, gallons of beer and neck-breaking headbanging! All of this was possible due to the amazing array of bands we have in Ireland who answered the call and came to lay waste in Waterford, to the venues that played host and had to rebuild after each show and, of course, to all you metal maniacs out there who came to throw the devil horns. It was the ultimate metal party!
It saddens us to say that we have no shows planned for the immediate future and will not be doing so for a good while yet, but this is not the end. We will return one day soon and when we do, may the city quake to the sound of reverberating riffs and hexa-kicks. Until that day, have a headbanging 2019 and...
Keep on rockin'! 🤘

Check it out! Here are the snaps from our most extreme show to date, featuring Horrenda, Imrama and Bisect at Central Arts, along with all you crazy headbangers out there!
Black metal claws and shrill screams to Majessty for once again taking some fine photos indeed. Go ahead and give her page a Like to see more awesome photography and design. 🤘
While depraved humanity scrapped over cut-price TVs, we in Waterford rocked out with our most extreme lineup to date. Horrenda, Imrama and Bisect shook the walls in Central Arts and to honour this, the fans showed up in co**se paint.
A great way to end 2018. Kudos to Majessty for capturing the madness on camera once more.

The Black Metal Friday deal is now over, as is heavy metal in Waterford for 2018. Horrenda, Imrama and Bisect brought the house down and damn, was it an insane way to end the year.
Big thank you to our 3 bands for making loud noises and putting on some serious performances and also to Central Arts and crew for hosting with their amazing venue once more.
Most of all, devil horns and a banshee cry to all you metalheads who came from the shadows to rock on out with us. Headbanging, co**se paint and a whole lot of fun was had and we cannot wait for more in 2019.
Be sure to Like and Follow all bands involved and send all of your metal mates this way. We want bigger mosh pits in the coming year! Also, keep an eye out on our page for last night's flash (deal) photography from Majessty in the next few days.
Here's to the next round of gigs! Until then...
Keep on rockin'! 🤘

Tomorrow is Black Metal Friday, which means killer deals. We've got Horrenda, Imrama and Bisect, 3 bands in 1 show. Now that's a whole lot of brütal.
Central Arts, 9pm start, €10 in and B.Y.O.B., the deal just keeps getting better! And don't forget to wear your co**se paint to be in with a chance of winning our prize bundle which includes music from all 3 bands and a set of our posters from this year.
Black Metal Friday. Best bargain you'll find. 🤘

Are adverts shouting "Black Friday!" at you already? Well we're shouting "Black Metal Friday!" even louder, in tortured death growls, because it's only one week to go until the darkest and most extreme metal show hits Waterford this year.
And unlike those evil retailers, we have a genuinely awesome deal for you: Horrenda, Imrama and Bisect at Central Arts. Three bands, one awesome venue. Only €10 in and it's B.Y.O.B.!
Not only that, but we have a special prize bundle to give away for our last show of the year. It's amazingly simple to enter. All you need do is don some co**se paint for the gig (downing your B.Y.O.B. stash before arriving will likely give the same effect) and you'll be entered into a raffle to win a selection of albums from our lineup and a bunch of posters from our first year of shows.
A black and evil day it may be, but we're gonna make it a truly kickass night. We'll see you there! 🤘

When Dirty Casuals brought their EP 'Light and Dark Matter' to Central Arts, Waterford. With support from Sixth Extinction and Bankrupt, all set on the big stage with laser lights, it was an out-of-this-world experience.
Big round of applause to Majessty for capturing the light and dark in these stellar photographs!

What a night Friday was, we've only just recovered! With a galactic amount of riffs and an ever-present presence of cans, Dirty Casuals brought their latest metal sounds to Waterford in style, playing with their newest and fourth band member for the first time. It was an epic performance!
Sixth Extinction crushed it as ever, while Bankrupt showed that a rock duo can kick some serious ass (we're still not over that drum solo)! And though it was unfortunate that Slung From A Tree couldn't make the show, we will be sure to bring them here in the new year for more cosmic sounds.
Now you may have noticed strange things happening outside. The sky has darkened, the rains pour down and there is the threat of evil looming over the horizon. This is not a coincidence. Our final show of the year, Black Metal Friday, is under two weeks away and it is set to shroud Central Arts in blackened, extreme noise. We strongly advise you not to miss it. On 23rd November, embrace the darkness!
