Today was a very special day at Annagh Hill National School with the official opening of its beautiful new sensory garden – a wonderful space that will bring enjoyment, inclusion and calm to children for many years to come.

The occasion was made even more meaningful with the dedication of a beautiful memorial bench in memory of my beloved daughter-in-law, Helen.

Helen was a devoted mother, a caring friend and a truly special person whose kindness and warmth touched so many lives. To see her remembered in such a thoughtful and lasting way, in the school community that means so much to her children, was deeply moving for our family.

I would like to sincerely thank the Principal, staff, Board of Management and everyone involved in creating this wonderful sensory garden and for the compassion and care shown in honouring Helen's memory. It was a beautiful morning of celebration, reflection and community spirit.

May this special place be enjoyed by generations of children, and may the bench serve as a gentle reminder of a life that brought so much love, kindness and joy to those who knew her.

Helen's memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends and community every day.

We had a lovely day today, June 19th, celebrating the official opening of our sensory garden. We also had an exhibition of artwork completed by our students in our school hall. This was the culmination of great work over the past two years as part of the creative schools programme. The project was led by Ms. Grealish and Ms. Flynn who worked closely with our creative schools associate, Dee Deegan, and the Brooklodge Gardening team led by Christiane. A sincere thanks to them for bringing the project to fruition. Thanks so much to everyone - staff, parents and students who played any part, big or small, in ensuring everything was such a success. Thanks to our Parent Association who helped out with serving refreshments today and who funded a very special memorial in the form of a bench for Helen Roche. We were delighted to have Helen’s family join us today for the unveiling. It will ensure Helen’s memory lives on in our school. Thanks to Orla Forde for the beautiful mural which marks the entrance into our garden. We know this garden will serve the students of the school for many years to come.

The curtain came down on an amazing year of sport this evening at the Nicholson and Patricia Kelly Cup Finals in Monivea. Our girls showed great determination and bravery but were defeated by Newtown in the Kelly Cup Final. Our boys did brilliantly to retain the Nicholson Cup against Monivea. We couldn’t be any prouder of our students for the effort they have put in all year. They have been outstanding. Thanks to Monivea Abbey GAA Club for organising and hosting the competition and thanks to all who came out to support our teams.
