We have been learning about wind, looking at windmills, kites, wind turbines. We have looked at the trees moving in the wind. Our art project was our windmills, recycled from old yoghurt cartoons. This activity took a few days but they all loved it. Their concentration when adding the final touches.

I love watching the class play, free play is unstructured and child led. It's vital for creativity, emotional intelligence, problem solving and social skills. Last week the children were making a Lego house but they wanted their boat to be able to drive in the sky, between them they made a rollercoaster. It took some time and teamwork but they did an amazing job. We have loose wood in the room for the children to use. While playing in the water tray they realised the cars couldn't cross the water, they used the loose wood to make a bridge. It's great to see their imaginations.

A lovely week, weather has been great. We have spent so much time outdoors playing and having fun. Our sunflowers needed to be repotted as growing well. We had picnics outdoors, obstacle courses, played in the mud kitchen, made daisy chains and ended our week with an ice pop.

We have been fascinated with all the dandelions. We decided to do something different for baking this week. We made dandelion syrup. We collected dandelions, pulled petals, lots of yellow fingers. We washed the petals, they were simmered, lemon and sugar added and let it thicken. The children all thought it tasted lovely and said it had the same colour as honey

This Friday 17th April the Irish Heart Foundation’s Mobile Health Unit will be parked at The Rock Daycare Centre, Ballymote, from 9am-4.15pm as part of its drive to offer free heart health checks to the general public.

Our class bear T bear has had so many adventures. T bear has been lucky to have sleep overs with his friends in class and to take part in their family time. This year we have teamed up with a kindergarten in Munich, Germany and t-bear is off for an adventure next week. His clothes have been washed and the passport is ready. We will be sending our travel journal with him and the children in Munich will log their adventures with t-bear. This is a lovely way to share our culture and to also learn a new language. We are looking forward to seeing what t-bear gets up to on his travels.

We finished off last term with a trip to a farm, how lucky are we. We fed horses, alpacas, sheep and Bernie the pig. We held a lamb. Planted strawberries and played in the poly tunnel. such a great way to start Easter holidays. Lots more memories made
