I am delighted to see two Clare schools included in the latest expansion of the Safe Routes to School Programme.

Scariff Community College and Scoil Mhuire Náisiúnta in Corofin will now benefit from the programme, which aims to make it safer and easier for children to walk and cycle to school.

Safe routes can help reduce traffic congestion around schools while also encouraging healthier and more active journeys for students.

With 83 schools being added nationally, bringing the total number involved to 609, I look forward to seeing the progress at both Clare schools and the improvements delivered for students and their families.

Well done to three of our second year students, Aisling Garvey, Róisín Slattery and Haley McMahon, who were recruited by Tomás Mac Con Mara Heritage Consulting to collect oral history recordings at the celebration of the Scariff Show now in its 8th decade. The students completed 11 short-form recordings at the Scariff Show, resulting in a very useful body of material. The recordings were brief but provided engaging snapshots of Show memories and experiences. They were commended for capturing a good range of perspectives, from relatively recent attendees to people with 40–50 years of memories, including former competitors, long-standing participants and people involved in farming, livestock and the running of the Show. Recurring themes included childhood and family memories, cattle, sheep, horses and show jumping, changes in agriculture and the Show itself, and, above all, the importance of the Show as a place where the community comes together. Well done girls 👏

The Munster Schools combined events took place in Nenagh today. Conor Martin took part in 5 events across the day against 25 competitors and finished on the podium with a silver medal for SCC.
Conor competed in the long jump, sprint hurdles, shot putt, high Jump and the 800m which he won to take the silver medal overall. We are very proud of Conor's achievements as this was his first Combined events. We have no doubt we will see him on the podium again.

SCC Girls U16 & U19s Rugby teams were in action today in Young Munster RFC for the Norths 7s Tournament with Ms Akers, and Christina and Robyn of Scariff R.F.C.
Our 19s proved a very strong opposition in all 3 matches against Salesians, Ursuline and Limerick Etts winning 20-5, 30-5 and 25-5 respectively.
Laura Danaher scored 5 tries, Eliza and Ruby Wiley Murphy scored 3 tries each, Sadhbh Whelan scored 2 and Shannon Beston and Maebh Guilfoyle scored 1 try each.
The U16s was made up with a younger team, a lot of whom were playing their first match today in that age grade. They showed fantastic grit and determination and all improved with every match they played.
There were some fantastic tries from Rebecca Beston who scored 2, Sadhbh Madden and Elena Wiley Murphy who scored one each on the day.
A great day out for SCC Girls Rugby 👏👏👏

Today saw the first year girls from Scariff Community College enjoy their first outing representing the school, as they travelled to O'Sullivan Park Astro to take on Ennis Community College.

It was a very enjoyable day out for the girls, who showed great enthusiasm and team spirit throughout the game. There was a really positive atmosphere, and every girl on the panel contributed to the win. 💪

The girls put in great skill and came away with a very positive result, making it a brilliant first day out for Scariff Community College.

A fantastic first outing — well done, girls! 👏
