Simply Soulful Getting ready to launch Simply Soulful with Sinéad Ailill 🎉

People often ask me if they need to bring anything or prepare in any way before a Reiki session.

The best thing to do is come as you are. Wear something comfortable and cosy.
You could think about your intentions for the session. What are you hoping to get from it? How would you prefer things to be afterwards?

Give yourself plenty of time too. Arrive in good time, and if you’re anything like me, you might like to sit in the car for five minutes first just to catch your breath before you come in.

The one thing I would say is to clear your schedule after your session if you can, so you’re not going straight back into the busyness of life - work, grocery shopping, all of it. If you do have to do those things, try and keep it light.

And apart from that, there’s nothing else.

You know the body. Maybe you studied the anatomy and physiology, or maybe you learned it through years of breath and movement. Either way, you speak that language fluently every working day. That inner knowing, the feeling of energy in your hands, there’s a language for that too. The energy bodies, the chakra system, how energy moves. It maps onto everything you already know. That’s what I teach at Reiki Level 1. Comment FIELD and I’ll send you the details for September.

Before you arrive, once the room is ready, I sit.

I put on meditation music, sit in gyan mudra, and ask my higher self and my guides for guidance. Then I take a few deep breaths and calm my nerves.

Because yes, I still get a little nervous before new clients. Even after all these years.

My own nerves I know well at this stage - a nervous excitement. Eager to get started… But sometimes what I’m feeling is much stronger than that, and that’s how I know I’m picking up on your nerves on top of my own. You’re on your way, wondering what you’ve let yourself in for!

So I sit, and I breathe, and I sort out what’s mine and what’s yours before you get here.

Which means you don’t have to arrive calm. The nerves can come in with you. That’s what the room is ready for and what I’m ready for.

This is me setting up before anyone arrives.

I do Reiki on the table before the person gets here. I clear the room and the reiki bed, and I get the space ready. Nobody usually sees this part. They might think the session starts when they lie down.

Today when I was filming my set up my hands went very heavy, like something pressing against my palms. That’s what reiki feels like. Sometimes there’s heat or a tingling sensation but mostly this pressing sensation.

Nearly thirty years of doing this and it still makes me smile every time.

The room is ready before you get to it.

Maybe you’ve been circling this for a while. You’ve saved the posts, read the books, thought about learning Reiki someday. This September is that someday. Two Saturdays, a small group of four, and you leave attuned, able to do for yourself what I was doing in that field. Two places left. Comment FIELD and I’ll send you the details.

Anyone else feeling the energies of the new moon today? We went to talk to the trees... 🌳

At home, she’s the one holding everyone.

She’s the mother, the wife, the daughter. She’s on the parents’ council. She’s advocating for her child.

Driving to football training, swimming lessons and music classes. Booking everyone’s appointments except her own. Making dinners nobody eats. The family calendar living in her head on a constant loop.

She feels like she can’t afford to drop anything.

But when she comes into my room, she doesn’t have to hold any of it.

She gets up on the table, takes a deep breath, and for one hour, someone is holding her.

I keep coming back to this idea of integration.

The healing session does something. But it’s afterwards, in the ordinary hours, that the thing actually takes hold.

It’s a bit like painting.

You do the work, the coat goes on, and then you have to leave it. You can’t rush it. Paint needs the time to dry and set into what it’s going to be. Go at it too soon, a second coat before the first has taken, and you wreck the whole thing. You lift off what you just did.

Nearly thirty years of doing this work and I still notice it in myself. The session matters. But the after is where it lands. The quiet, the settling, throwing turf into the shed, washing the dishes.

So if you’ve had a session and felt a bit off after, or tender, or like nothing much happened, that might be it working. Not on the table. In the days after, while you’re getting on with everything else.

Burnout doesn't heal on the same timeline it took to build. That mismatch is why so many people feel confused when a vacation doesn't fix what took years to create. 🧠

Your mind and body built patterns of chronic stress over months or years of running on empty. Undoing that takes real time, often one to three years of consistent repair, not a weekend of rest.

That's just an honest timeline. Rest still matters. A bubble bath still matters. They just aren't the whole recovery. They're one piece of a much longer process your mind needs to fully reset.

Take the long road here. Real repair was always going to take longer than a long weekend.

Send this to someone who thinks they should be over their burnout by now.
