A practical exam tip for language subjects (Spanish included):

In written tasks, many students lose marks by writing too much.

As a general rule:

if the question is worth 5 marks,
5–6 solid lines are usually enough

long answers don’t get extra marks

weak extra sentences often lose marks

Examiners reward:
✔️ relevance
✔️ accuracy
✔️ clear structures

Not length.

This is one of those things students rarely hear in school,
but it makes a real difference in exams.

We spend a lot of time in grinds working on this kind of exam detail,
because this is where marks are actually won and lost.

🇪🇸 A quick note on Leaving Cert Spanish (Higher Level)

Many students believe that to improve in Spanish they need:
❌ more vocabulary lists
❌ more grammar exercises

In reality, what limits marks most often is not adapting the language to the task.

For example:
• A diario answer written like a formal essay
• An opinion piece with no justification
• Correct grammar, but no development of ideas

Examiners reward:
✔️ relevance
✔️ task completion
✔️ appropriate tone and register

A simple check students can do this week:
👉 Before writing, ask “Who am I? Why am I writing? To whom?”
It sounds basic — but it’s where many marks are lost.

Spanish is one of the most trainable LC subjects when approached properly.
