Great to see Joshua Green on the medal podium at the European Open in Estonia this weekend past. 🇮🇪

Joshua finished with the bronze medal, which is a super achievement.

A phenomenal performance throughout the weekend and he went into golden score with a former Bronze Medal Olympian.

🇮🇪 TEAM IRELAND ANNOUNCEMENT 🇮🇪

The Irish Judo Association is proud to announce that Joshua Green has been selected to represent Ireland at the European Judo Championships 2026 in Tbilisi, Georgia (16–19 April).

Competing in the Men’s -73kg category, Joshua continues to establish himself among Europe’s elite. He currently sits 31st in the IJF World Ranking List in the -73kg division a testament to his consistency on the international circuit.

Joshua has enjoyed a strong run of performances over the past 12 months, including:

🥈 Silver medal – Gold Coast Oceania Open 2025
🥉 Bronze medal – Skopje European Cup 2025
🏅 Top 7 finish – Dushanbe Grand Slam 2025 

Domestically, he continues to lead the way and is recognised as one of Ireland’s top performers, adding to a career that includes multiple All-Ireland titles and international podium finishes across the IJF circuit.

Joshua is scheduled to compete on Day 2 (Thursday 17 April) of the Championships, where he will take to the tatami against Europe’s best.

📺 Live streaming will be available via JudoTV, the International Judo Federation’s official broadcast platform, where all contests can be viewed live and on demand.

Joshua has a dream and a very realistic goal of competing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, and we at SMC will support him every step of the way to make this a reality.

💥 🥋 My name is Joshua Green , and I am an Irish judoka competing in the -73kg weight category. I represent Ireland internationally and compete regularly on the IJF and continental circuits.

My home club is Konarakai Judo Club in Derry, but I now train full time at The Camberley Judo Club in the UK. A standard week of training for me usually consists of 13 sessions spread over 6 days with one recovery day at the weekend. These session consist of randori (sparring), technical work, strength training and conditioning work.

Over the past 18months, I have been competing and training all over the world,my competition highlights for the last 18 Months have been;

• All-Ireland Champion – 🇮🇪(December 2025 )
• Silver medal – Oceania Open, Gold Coast, Australia 🇦🇺(November 2025)
• Gold medal – Welsh Open 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
(October 2025)
• Bronze medal – European Cup, Skopje, North Macedonia 🇲🇰 (September 2025)
• 7th place – IJF Grand Slam, Dushanbe, Tajikistan 🇹🇯 (May 2025)
• Bronze medal – Belgium Open)🇧🇪 (January 2025)

• Gold medal – Pan American Open, Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦 (November 2024)
• 5th place – European Open, Rome, Italy 🇮🇹 (November 2024)

Going into 2026 my short term goals are to medal at another European Open and be in and around the medals and places at Grand Prix and Grand Slam level competitions.
The big focus for the start of the year is to get in a good position for the start of Olympic qualifying in May of this year.
Another short Term goal is to medal in the Commonwealth Games in August this year in Glasgow, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My long term goal over the next two years is to achieve qualification for the Olympic Games in LA in 2028, so everything starting from this month will be gearing up and pushing towards that goal in 2 years.

The work starts this week at the OTC (Olympic training camp) in Mittersill, Austria.
The first comp of the year will be at the end of January in Sofia, Bulgaria, followed by another training camp in Paris, then out to Tashkent, Uzbekistan for the second competition.
