☀️ Our Final Day of the Summer Term ☀️

Our last day of the summer term was filled with both happiness and sadness as we said some very special goodbyes.

After 11 wonderful years, our much-valued SNA, Therese O’Neill, is retiring. Ms O’Neill has done so much for our pupils and our school, and we thank her sincerely for her kindness, care and dedication. We wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement—she will be greatly missed by everyone at Horseleap N.S. 💐

We also said goodbye to our Special Education Teacher, Olive Robinson. We are very grateful for her hard work and dedication to our pupils, and we wish her every happiness and success in the future.

A fond farewell and the very best of luck to our Sixth Class pupils, Molly Convey and Lauren Mooney, as they begin an exciting new chapter at secondary school in September. We are very proud of you both! 🎓

Our parish priest, Fr Joe, joined us to say a few prayers, after which presentations were made to Ms O’Neill and Ms Robinson.

A big thank you to our Parents’ Association for providing tea and refreshments for the pupils, staff and parents—and for arranging a special visit from the ice-cream van, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! 🍦

Wishing our entire school community a happy, safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing everyone again in September! 🌞

🚌 School Tour 2026 🚌

What a wonderful school tour we had on Tuesday, 16 June!

Our first stop was Derryglad Folk and Heritage Museum, just outside Athlone. A big thank you to Charlie and Bridie for welcoming us and showing us the museum’s fascinating collection of artefacts.

Next, we travelled to Hodson Bay, where we boarded Viking Mike’s boat and enjoyed a trip along the River Shannon to Athlone Castle. ⚓🏰

Our final destination was Planet Play Centre, where everyone had lots of fun! It was an action-packed day filled with history, adventure and plenty of happy memories. 🎉

Our Sports Day took place on Monday, 15 June, and what a fun-filled day it was!

The pupils took part in a fantastic variety of activities, including the sack race, egg-and-spoon race, skipping race, shoe mix-up race and ladder race. Everyone showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and sporting spirit throughout the day.

The highlight, as always, was our annual egg toss! 🥚

Well done to all our pupils for participating and making the day such an enjoyable success! 🎉

🤖 BRICS Showcase at TUS Athlone 🤖

Congratulations to our Senior Room pupils, who travelled to TUS Athlone on 11 June to showcase their fantastic BRICS projects!

Over the past year, the pupils have participated in the LEGO BRICS programme in conjunction with Athlone Education Centre and Oide. They learned how to build with LEGO and programme robots. For the showcase, they were challenged to design and create a robot that could solve a real-world problem.

Horseleap N.S. proudly displayed three innovative robots:

🐦 **The Big Beak Blocker**—designed to help smaller birds access food while keeping larger birds away.

🛍️ **BRICS Basket**—an automated, app-controlled delivery service for transporting shopping.

🌱 **Aqua, the Plant Waterer**—designed to water plants when its sensor detected dry weather conditions.

The pupils had a wonderful day presenting their projects and exploring the other displays. Well done to our talented scientists, engineers and creators of the future! 🌟

💚 Green-Schools Flag Success! 💚

Many congratulations to our Green-Schools Committee and all our pupils on receiving the Green-Schools Flag for the Global Citizenship – Energy theme! This wonderful achievement reflects their hard work, dedication and commitment.

Members of the committee travelled to the awards ceremony in Athlone, where they were proudly presented with the flag. During May, 667 schools received flags at 12 ceremonies held across seven locations nationwide.

We are especially proud that St Peter and St Paul’s National School was one of just 58 schools in Ireland to receive a flag for the Global Citizenship – Energy theme.

Well done to everyone involved—what a fantastic achievement for our school! 🌍♻️⚡

A round-up of the summer term at St Peter and St Paul’s National School! ☀️

Our pupils enjoyed making Easter chocolate nests as part of procedural writing in their English lessons. Of course, the best part was tasting their delicious creations! 🍫🐣

The Junior Room welcomed Annmarie from Kilbeggan Library for a special *Spring into Storytime* visit. The children loved listening to the stories—and they were especially delighted to meet Clover the Cat! 📚🐱

We also welcomed Kevin and Christy from the fire brigade, who taught us all about fire safety. Thank you both for giving your time and sharing such important advice with our pupils! 🚒🔥

As part of S.E.S.E., the children designed and made their own parachutes using a variety of materials. We then took them to the playground and dropped them to investigate what would happen in the wind. It was a fun, hands-on learning experience! 🪂

What a busy and enjoyable term it has been!
