DAWN, an exhibition of works from the students of the MA/MSc in Interaction and Experience Design is taking place at the moment in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) at University of Limerick.

The students projects combine technological competence with design/artistic endeavour. The projects represent a convergence of computer, networks, and media technologies. The exhibition runs until 5pm tomorrow.

Summer Research Series: UL student Muhammad Ali Zain Ul Abideen has been spending his summer researching Inflammatory Mediators as Predictive Biomarkers for Treatment Response in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, under the supervision of Dr Elizabeth Ryan.

"My research focuses on diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), which is the most common type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The project investigates how different DLBCL cell lines detect and respond to immune stimulation. It also examines whether these responses are influenced by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection or by the cancer itself.

"The aim of the project is to better understand how immune sensing changes in lymphoma cells and how EBV infection may alter these responses. By identifying differences in immune activation between these cell lines, the research may improve our understanding of lymphoma biology and contribute to the development of more effective biomarkers and targeted therapies."

Summer Research Series: Chemical and Biochemical Engineering student and international ITF Taekwon-do Athlete, David Larkin, is spending his summer researching the Influence of Radiolysis-Derived Molecular Solvents on the Crystallisation of Flufenamic Acid. David's research is being supervised by Dr Jennifer Cookman

"I am performing Gas Chromatography to analyse and determine the resolution of low concentrations of acetaldehyde and 2,3-butanediol in ethanol. This is being carried out to experimentally validate some of the systems involved in the radiolysis simulations being carried out within the team. These simulations are being used to investigate the chemical reactions that can occur within Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy (LPTEM)."

Summer Research Series: Technology Managment student Dima Albanna is spending her summer completing a SWOT Analysis of organisational awareness and adoption of Industry 5.0 and sustainable supply chains in an Irish context. Dima is conducting her research under the supervision of Associate Professor Ingrid Hunt.

"My research explores how organisations understand and apply the main principles of Industry 5.0, including human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. I have been working closely with my supervisor from home on the project. My work involves reading and reviewing academic journal articles, writing the literature review, and designing an online survey using Microsoft Forms, which was distributed through Brightspace to MSc Supply Chain Operations students.

I have really enjoyed this research because it has helped me develop my research skills, improve my critical reading and academic writing, and gain a deeper understanding of an emerging area of supply chain management. The aim of my research is to provide practical recommendations that can help organisations adopt Industry 5.0 more effectively and support the development of more sustainable, resilient, and human-centred supply chains"
