At the end of May, Odyssey team members Kevina and Patrick from Riverstone Lodge in Youghal took part in the Cork City Marathon in support of Jigsaw.

After they put in the hard yards, we topped up their fantastic fundraising efforts through our team hike in Waterford in June.

The charity recently sent Kevina this lovely thank you note, acknowledging the €1,370 raised.

Terrific to see our staff supporting young people’s mental health as well as their own wellbeing, and having a positive impact on the ground.

Well done again everyone and thanks to all who contributed to a worthy cause close to our hearts. 🧡

𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗧 🧊 — Odyssey’s social care staff at Courtwood Lodge in Co. Laois held an energising ice bath challenge after a recent team meeting!

Unit Manager John Clancy said the ‘plucky dip’ had a dual purpose — combining team-bonding fun with an occupational therapist’s recommendation for a young person. And wouldn’t you know, youth won out, lasting the longest in the Cold Plunge Tub!

John, who thinks outside the box to keep things interesting, noted that Lorcan Gleeson from the Odyssey Saoirse Project has been a big advocate for both cold water therapy and breathwork while supporting young people and staff in Ballybrittas.

Well done to everyone who took the plunge!

𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗦: A warm Odyssey welcome to social care workers Sindiswa Cynthia Malangabi and Lucky Milton Muller, who landed in Ireland from South Africa last weekend.

Greeted by Elaine from HR at sunny Dublin Airport, both were delighted to be here, albeit a little tired after their long journeys.

Sindiswa is joining the Rowanwood Lodge team in Limerick, while Lucky is linking up with our residential care staff at Valleyview, Co. Cork.

Over the past two years, Odyssey’s international recruits have enriched the way we support our young people, bringing experience, enthusiasm, and empathy to make a positive difference across our homes. 🌍

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 — Social Care Worker Margaret McGuire recently availed of Odyssey's Volunteering Policy to support Munster Chernobyl Aid.

Clonmore team member Mags is involved in the charity’s work delivering humanitarian and medical supplies to orphanages, schools and families in Belarus, one of the regions most affected by the 1986 nuclear disaster.

Their next ‘Journey of Hope’ takes place in September and Mags was among the main organisers of a summer family fun day fundraiser in Faugheen, Co. Tipperary, featuring a concert by the Dublin City Ramblers.

Mags and colleagues are also pictured with guest speaker Polina Ismallova Dunphy and her daughter. As a child, Polina was assisted by the Chernobyl Aid Rest and Recuperation programme, staying with the Dunphy family. She uses their surname and fondly refers to John and Michelle as her parents. Her inspiring journey is told in 𝑈𝑛𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑑: 𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑛 “𝐼𝑟𝑖𝑠ℎ” 𝑂𝑟𝑝ℎ𝑎𝑛.

Part of our H.A.V.E. Positive Impact charter, Odyssey’s Volunteering Policy enables employees to take 8 hours of paid volunteer leave annually. We’re delighted to see it being put to such good use. Well done Mags!

🫶 To stock their next container, the charity is seeking nappies, sanitary and hygiene products, toiletries, and dry food items like oats/cereal. To help, email [email protected]

A reminder of why this work matters — and how positive growth takes time, patience, and team effort.

A Guardian ad Litem has shared feedback about the “remarkable” progress of a young person in one of our South East homes, and the steady, consistent support that made it possible:

“In my 26 years working with children in care, I have never seen such a change in a young person.”

They spoke about the team’s compassion, strength, and calm presence, even on tougher days.

“Odyssey is one of the most professional and well‑run services. The lengths you go to for children are exemplary.”

This is The Odyssey Way: trauma‑aware, dependable care delivered by dedicated staff who show up when young people need it most.

Thanks to all our teams who care today to empower tomorrow.
