Learning Limerick is truly honoured this week to have representatives joining as one of only 32 UNESCO Learning Cities across 20 Member States for the inaugural UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities Academy; being hosted in Shanghai Open University. Michael MacCurtain, Chair of Learning Limerick and Network Manager with Limerick Chamber Skillnet and Eimear Brophy of Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and former Chair of Learning Limerick, are attending the Academy from 12โ€“17 October. As the first academy gets underway, these cities form a new global community - sharing experiences, exploring new approaches and learning from one another about how lifelong learning can help address local priorities.

Delighted to be sending six of our LCEN member organisations to Germany as part of our Erasmus+ programme ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช
This week they are visiting adult and community education organisations in Kiel and Husum, learning about different approaches to community education, adult learning, integration, basic education and lifelong learning.
It is a great opportunity for our members to share their own experiences from Limerick, learn from colleagues in Germany and bring new ideas and approaches back to their organisations and communities.
A huge thank you to our hosts in Germany for the warm welcome and for putting together such an interesting programme for the group.

During Local Development Week 2026, we are reflecting on the Irish Network of Learning Cities annual gathering in Cork, where representatives from Learning Cities across Ireland came together to explore Inclusion, Recovery and Second Chance Learning.

As a key part of Learning Limerick, we were delighted to take part in the event. Through a range of workshops, discussions and shared learning opportunities, participants exchanged ideas and good practice to help strengthen lifelong learning opportunities and support more inclusive communities.

We had a great two days in CorkLearning City last week, as they hosted a Shared Island event on 'Learning, Recovery, Inclusion & Second Chances'.
This has become an annual gathering indeed in celebration of Irish Learning Cities Day. At this visit, representatives from Learning Cities across the island of Ireland came together to explore the theme of Inclusion, Recovery and Second Chance Learning. A group of partners from Limerick were delighted to take part in the event. Through a range of workshops, discussions, site visits and shared learning opportunities, participants exchanged ideas and good practice to help strengthen lifelong learning opportunities and support more inclusive communities.
Special thanks from us all in Learning Limerick to Alison Curtin and James McCarthy from Bedford Row Family Project, Paul Tracey from Our Lady of Lourdes Community Services Group Ltd and Anita Dooley and Adrian O Hanlon Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board Limerick Prison School in participating in this learning exchange; and sharing their experience of working on partnership initiatives in Limerick. Hopefully, this will mean many follow-up exchanges and working together; all for the benefit of our learners.
