🎒 As children return to school, every road user has a responsibility to help keep them safe.
Sean Canney TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, and Michael Rowland, Director of Research, Standards & Assurance at the RSA, are reminding motorists of their responsibility to protect children on our roads.
Children accounted for 5% of road fatalities and 8% of serious injuries over a five-year period, with seven in ten child casualties occurring on roads with speed limits of 60km/h or less.
Drivers should:
🚗 Slow down around schools
📵 Put away distractions
🚸 Stop when directed by a school warden
👀 Watch carefully for children walking and cycling
⏰ Allow extra time for journeys
Parents should ensure children are properly restrained in cars, wear helmets when cycling and understand how to make safe choices on their journey.
Never park on a footpath when dropping off or collecting children, as this can force pedestrians onto the road.
Together, we can make every journey to and from school safer.

🏍️ Look Right. Look Left. Look Right Again.
The RSA's motorcycle safety campaign is reminding motorists to take extra care at T-junctions, where more than one-third of serious motorcyclist injury collisions occur.
Welcoming the campaign, Assistant Commissioner Denis Ferry of An Garda Síochána urged motorists to be mindful of motorcyclists on our roads and to take the time to check carefully before pulling out at junctions.
A second look takes only a moment, but it could prevent a serious collision and save a life.

The RSA is pleased to announce continued strong progress in reducing waiting times for driving test invitations, as part of its ongoing Driving Test Action Plan.
As of this week, the average national waiting time to receive a driving test invitation has fallen to 14.4 weeks, well ahead of earlier projections.

You can apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in person at any NDLS centre
1. Book an appointment by calling 0818 919 090
2. Complete the IDP application form before attending your appointment
3. You will need to bring your valid Irish or EU/EEA driving licence, application form, passport sized photo and *€15 fee to your appointment
*Card payment only acceptable on the day

Changes to Learner Permit renewals - Here’s what you need to know:
🟢Obtaining a 3rd Permit:
• Must have sat a driving test in the past 2 years
🟡Obtaining a 4th Permit:
• Must have sat a driving test in the past 2 years
• Valid for 1 year only
🔴Obtaining a Permit (After 7+ years holding a Learner Permit):
• Retake the Driver Theory Test
• Apply for a new Learner Permit
• Complete EDT (12 lessons) or IBT (16–18 hrs for motorbikes) before your next *driving test
*Can’t sit driving test until you have held the learner permit for 6 months
