Virtually every primary, post-primary and special school in Ireland is closed today as teachers and Special Needs Assistants take part in the nationwide public-service strike.

The scale of the disruption is significant:

๐Ÿซ More than 3,000 primary schools affected

๐ŸŽ’ More than 700 post-primary schools affected

Around 150 special schools affected

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ Around 90,000 primary and post-primary teachers taking part

๐Ÿค Around 20,000 Special Needs Assistants taking part

Altogether, almost ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ are missing a day of school.

For families, todayโ€™s action can mean much more than a school closure.

๐Ÿงธ Working parents may need alternative childcare

๐Ÿ“… Established family routines have been disrupted

Children who rely on additional supports may be particularly affected by a break in their usual school day

The dispute centres on negotiations for a new public-service pay agreement. Unions argue that pay has not kept pace with living costs, while Government says it is prepared to negotiate a new agreement.

๐Ÿ“… A second strike is currently planned for

There have been some indications today that further talks may be possible, so parents should continue to watch for updates before making firm assumptions about next Wednesday.

More than ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ,๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ public-sector workers are expected to take part in the 24-hour strike, including teachers and Special Needs Assistants.

Today is a big day for students receiving their Junior Cycle results โ€” and for the parents and families who have supported them along the way.

Results day can bring all sorts of emotions: excitement, relief, pride, disappointment or perhaps a mixture of everything.

For parents, one of the most important things we can do today is

Give your young person space to talk about how they feel
๐Ÿ‘ Recognise the work and effort that brought them this far
Remind them that a set of results does not define who they are or what they can achieve
๐ŸŒฑ Whatever the results, there is plenty more learning, growing and opportunity ahead

To every student receiving results today: Be proud of how far youโ€™ve come.

And to all the parents supporting them today โ€” sometimes listening, reassuring and simply being there is exactly what they need.

Last year's TY students collaborated with artist Brian Cregan to create a shared piece of artwork in the form of a parachute. As part of Culture night, the parachute will be on display in the foyer of the Riverbank Theatre tonight and the short film will also be screened from 4pm to 8pm.

Throughout the Parachute Project, students explored the origins of photography, learned cyanotype printmaking techniques, and investigated the unique history, landscape and heritage of the Curragh
