2026 1st Year Induction has begun! 🎉

We are delighted to welcome a new class of students as you begin this learning journey. 📚

ℹ️ Today's full day of induction includes introductions to the VN team, a campus and library tour, a snapshot on health and safety for veterinary nursing students and need-to-knows on the profession itself.

🔜 Tomorrow, information on work placement followed by taster sessions on some first year modules will be provided, giving you a real insight to your next 9 months of study.

We look forward to beginning the Semester with you all!

☣️Throwback - Shelter Medicine group visits Dundalk Dog Rescue ☣️

Last semester, the group of students enrolled in the Shelter Medicine elective module of our level 8 Advanced Veterinary Nursing programme, visited a local dog rescue center. 🐾

The team at Dundalk Dog Rescue kindly welcomed the students to tour the facility and spoke to them about all things shelter medicine, such as the biosecurity measures they use to protect the dogs and staff. 🐶

We are so grateful for for facilitating this visit; it enhanced the students understanding and gave great context to the topics they were studying.
Thank you! 🧡💙

🗑Got a blanket or throw that you don't use? Towels that need replacing? Lightly used collars or leads from when your pups were smaller? 🐶

Donate to the local charity by bringing in these items next week. It's a win win - clear out your unused items and give a needy pup some comfort! 🐕💝

Collection bin is located outside NE105 Veterinary Nursing Skills Lab.

📚 Journal Club 📑

This semester, our veterinary nursing students have been running a journal club as part of the Clinical Governance & Evidence-based Veterinary Care module, which is one half of a certificate alongside Leadership in Veterinary, and also one module in our BSc in Advanced Veterinary Nursing.

Did you know? 🔍
Journal clubs are useful quality improvement tools that can help to improve the learning culture in practice as well as opening up communication around clinical governance and how we can improve standards for our clients and patients. 🐕

This week, the students chose a very interesting study around the behaviour of canine patients in consultations. Of course there was plenty of tea involved, and even some home-baked treats! ☕️🍪
