🌍 Celebrating 100 years of Sir David Attenborough 🌿
To mark the centenary of Sir David Attenborough, one of the world’s greatest champions for nature, Trinity College Dublin welcomed pupils from South City CNS for a guided biodiversity tour of the campus. During the visit, Trinity students shared readings inspired by David Attenborough: Little People, BIG DREAMS, celebrating his lifelong dedication to the natural world 🌱🦋
From uncovering hidden habitats to learning how everyday actions can protect biodiversity, the day celebrated curiosity, care and connection with nature, values Sir David Attenborough has inspired for generations.
Here’s to nurturing the next generation of nature protectors 💚
Don’t panic if you see the mowers out before Friday, that’s the Final cut before the lawns go wild! We’re not cutting several lawns across our campuses to let nature do its thing. Who knows what will pop up this year?!
Download the iNaturalist app and let us know what you find on campus this summer!
Happy Earth Day! Here’s one small thing you can do for nature today - download iNaturalist and help us learn more about the species on our campus. This will let us know if all of our efforts to promote biodiversity are working and where we need to focus our efforts. Tell us what you’re doing for Earth Day!

What has become the highlight of Green Week is an initiative started by Sustainability Manager Jane Hackett four years ago to recognise the leadership in sustainability all around us, the Sustainability Leadership Awards. The winners of these awards have such an impact that spreads on campus and in the community.
Provost Linda Doyle and VP for Biodiversity and Climate Action Jane Stout opened the awards with appreciation for the leadership that is so necessary to advance sustainability on campus and beyond.
Such initiatives as working to empower young leaders and advance sustainable development across the World Network of Biosphere Reserves - Erica Terese Krueger, or developing a platform called TyreTrack to address the environmental health problem associated with microplastic pollution from tyre wear - Aditya Joshi, Julian Lewandowski, Roshan Chaudhrai.
The lifetime achievement award this year went to Tony Dalton, who began working in Trinity 49 years ago and became the Campus Maintenance Manager in 2016. He’s been instrumental in installing thousands of bike parking spaces, changing the practices of landscape maintenance to enhance nature, and furthering pollinator friendly planting and tree planting amongst so much more. Thank you, Tony, for your many years of dedication!
If you want a handy way to contribute this Green Week, show some support to the Grow College Green project! It will make accessing campus so much safer and easier, plus more trees and areas for gigs and events is a gorgeous use of that space! We’re adding the link to give feedback to our bio- and be sure to do so before midnight tomorrow 11 March!
