The national AI literacy and public engagement initiative ‘ ’, led by the Education and Public Engagement team at the Research Ireland ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University, has been named a finalist in the “Inclusion in the Digital World” category of the European Digital Skills Awards 2026.

Launched in 2021, brings together diverse communities and researchers to build AI literacy, learn from lived experience, and enable meaningful public dialogue on the societal impacts of AI. To date, the initiative has connected more than 85,000 participants and over 170 researchers nationwide.

New research led by Trinity College Dublin’s AI Accountability Lab at the ADAPT Centre and the School of Computer Science and Statistics pinpoints the growing threat posed by the influence AI companies have over the rule of law, and people’s lives, as well as outlining how society can stem the tide.

The international team behind the work, which comprised researchers based in Ireland, the United States, Scotland and The Netherlands, mapped the growing and outsized influence that the “Big AI” industry exerts on the capture and control of the narrative, and of the regulatory measures related to AI and its ever-growing use in society.

You are invited to the official launch of the Age-Friendly AI Training Programme.

We will be at Johnston Library, Cavan on Monday 13th of April 2026, with a special guest speaker on the day: Niamh Smyth, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment.

Following a year of conversations, Age-Friendly AI is now rolling out the Age-Friendly AI Training Programme co-developed with and for older adults.

On the day, you will:
• Learn what AI is and where it appears in daily life.
• Explore how AI is shaping healthcare, banking and communication.
• Discuss both the benefits and risks of AI.
• Try AI tools in a welcoming, hands-on environment.
This event is open to the public, community leaders and anyone interested in learning more about AI. No prior knowledge is needed - all welcome.

ADAPT recently wrapped up its annual , an event dedicated to celebrating standout service, research excellence, meaningful societal impact, and forward-thinking scientific collaboration. This year saw an impressive level of engagement across the ADAPT community, with colleagues eager to spotlight the commitment and achievements of their peers.

We’re excited to open registration for a free Workshop as part of the ADAPT Research Centre’s 'AI Literacy in the Classroom' initiative designed specifically to empower all post-primary educators to help students use responsibly and effectively.

This workshop focuses on the importance of critical thinking when evaluating AI outputs and aims to equip the on how to guide students in the ethical, informed, and responsible use of AI. Please note that this workshop is intended for post-primary educators with or without any computer science or AI experience/knowledge.

The EU-funded FORSEE project is seeking to better understand how AI systems can affect people differently - especially , + individuals, and other gender-vulnerable groups. Our mission is to analyse existing successful AI applications to:

- Strategically enhance the capabilities of the European AI industry, policymakers and the public.
- Address the future risks and opportunities of AI
- Help Europe retain a leading position in the AI landscape.
