In a concept cartoon the children are presented with a visual stimulus to which they are asked to respond.
Please note that the point of this routine is, not for the children to work out an answer, but rather for them to share their mathematical ideas and thinking with each other and the class.
And in doing so, to provide the teacher with rich and informative assessment data. In this way, it can be regarded as an example of a of a planned interaction, one of the three forms of assessment, alongside intuitive assessment and assessment events.
