CV Checkup Week:
Next week, starting Monday March 12th, the iadt Careers Centre brings you CV Checkup Week…
This is an opportunity for all students, but particularly those coming to the end of a course, to ensure that you are ready to apply for that internship or enter the graduate job market with a confident and professional self-presentation.
Are your CV, social media profile and general self-presentation current and up-to-date, reflecting the range of skills and experiences you have gained on your course as well as your previous employment and life experience?
If not, then there are a few practical things you can do next week:
1) Attend a special workshop : ‘Life After College: a simple guide to finding employment’ given by HR professional Beccy Cameron on Wednesday March 14th from 1pm-2pm in the Library’s Silent Cinema.
Beccy has in-depth knowledge of current employment/recruitment trends and practices and will offer you a very down-to-earth guide to your graduate jobsearch – see attached biography.
Following this presentation there will be an opportunity for you to have a one-to-one consultation about your own CV : please be sure to bring along your cv in hard or soft copy format.
If you wish to participate in this workshop you will need to pre-book your place in advance: just send me an email, mentioning your interest and include your name, course and year, to E: [email protected]
Note: priority will be given to students from years 3 and 4 and postgraduates of all courses; first and second years are welcome to request a place and will be notified if there are spaces available.
2) If you are not able to make it to the special workshop you can still have your cv checked out during the week :
Careers advisors will be available in the Library at lunchtime (1 – 2pm) on Tuesday March 13th and Thursday March 15th to offer individual consultations on cv’s. No need to pre-book : just bring along your cv.
3) If neither of the above options work for you can still have your cv checked out during the week:
Review and update your CV; then email it to the Careers Centre for evaluation/comment. Email to : [email protected]
If your CV is generally ok, perhaps just needing a few minor changes, I will send you my comments by return of email. If it needs some more detailed work I’ll invite you to a one-to-one consultation in the Careers Centre.
4) Finally, if due to time pressure next week, you don’t manage to do any of the above, then make a note to yourself to review your CV at the first opportunity in the coming weeks and send it to me for evaluation whenever works for you!
Do consider making the most of these opportunities offered to you during CV Checkup Week.
Best wishes,
Paul
