Mont St. Michel is a small quasi-island, separated by approximately one kilometer of waves from the mainland at high tide. It is about
one kilometer in diameter and about 80 meters high, jutting defiantly above the ocean.
At low tide, however, it is separated from the mainland by approximately one kilometer of sand. Before a causeway was built in 1879, the only approach to the Mont was by foot over this land bridge.
The tides here are among the greatest in France, with a swing of up to 14m (42 feet) between the high and low water marks. The unwary pedestrian could easily be drowned by the sudden onslaught of high tide. Furthermore, the force of those terrible tides shifts the sands about unpredictably, leading to unchartable quicksand fields.
(The Bayeux tapestry bears the mention that Harold the Saxon and William the Conquerer, visited Mont St. Michel. Hic Harold dux trahebat eos de arena, it says, "Harold pulled them out of the quicksand.") Pilgrims needed great faith to visit Mont St. Michel! Have you heard of the PARIS SYNDROME? I did not, until recently, apparently Japanese tourists often suffer from it when visiting Paris! Why?
It seems to be due to the disappointment they recent ...Paris is not what they expect it to be, i.e the top of culture and elegance...they find Paris dirty and unpractical, the Parisians ill dressed and impolite...
They are right but who told them Paris was this ideal city?
Japanese are probably more polite , educated and cultured than any Parisian...Parisians are often rude and unhelpful, badly dressed I am glad I was brought up in Brittany and did not get they awful manners... (not everyone is affected but many are) ...
Stereotypes can be dangerous for your health....There is a 24-hour help line run by the Japanese embassy to help Japanese tourists suffering from this condition. The embassy reports that on average twelve people suffer from this disorder annually....The condition is commonly viewed as a severe form of culture shock....

Napoleon Bonaparte who was left handed, had found new a technique in order to surprise his worst enemies the English, which was to attack them from the right, not the left. Later, Napoleon changed the rules of the road traffic to show the English who was dominating Europe. Some countries retained the ancestral code, (driving on the left) others began to use the Napoleonic code, even if Napoleon could never beat the English with his trick.......Now Corsica became French in June 1769 and Napoleon was born 2 mont later the 15 of August 1769....he very nearly was not born French...

The pillar of Souvigny (Allier) better known as the column of the Zodiac, is a octagonal pillar dated the second half of the 12th century. It is the representation of the universe or macrocosm with on its four-sided image of space and time.

Every town and village in France has its own mystery...sometimes several...The pyramid of Couhard (also called Couhard 2) is an ancient monument close to the "field of urns” at Autun, (Saône-et-Loire- Bourgogne). This pyramid was probably built in the 1st century AD. It as been classified a historic monument in 1840 ...its purpose is still a mystery...

RACISM AGAINST THE FRENCH
Why do so many people hate the French? I understand, sort of, from the english, we have been hereditary ennemies, for century, but even that for me it is just politics, it does not concern me, I don't hate the English, actually they are quite nice most of them... very polite and helpful...
The most intriguing for me is the Americains hatred of the French (surprised they came to our help in WWII) . We have no history of was against the Americains, on the contrary, the French helped them during their independance war, so why all the venim? that make no sense to me...
I notice that by watching the comics, as nobody is racist toward me overtly...but I was choked to hear so many horrible anti-french jokes on TV.
It is because of the politically correct movement, it is theonly race they are still allowed to insult ? Is there a word describing this (anti-frenchist does no sound right does it) ...
I don't lie the French government, and none of the politicians, but why taking against ordinary people who are the first to suffer from them ?

Another common confusion is the expression " old wives tales" or old wives remedies"...this in French is " comtes de bonne fame" or " remedes de bonne fame"- Fame, means reputation like in English, and is pronounced just like femmes which means women or wife....so this explain the confusion .....
