Continuing our DEIS schools project this week, we were privileged to work with the very focused, academic, fun, and curious students from Avondale Community College. We had a great day, and hopefully they did, too!

Chapter 6 of the Publication Manual is about what we call the "mechanics of style." These provide writing and formatting guidance for the following categories:
🔹 punctuation (Section 6.3 has the Oxford comma guidance),
🔹 spelling,
🔹 hyphenation,
🔹 capitalization,
🔹 italics,
🔹 abbreviations,
🔹 numbers,
🔹 statistical and mathematical copy,
🔹 presentation of equations, and
🔹 lists.

👉 Each large category has its own sections. For example, within abbreviations you will find sections about abbreviations for units of measurement, time, chemical compounds, "e.g." and other Latin abbreviations, and more!

The table of contents, which includes the name and number of each section, is available on the page linked in the first comment.

We enjoyed very much the first day of our DEIS schools project. The students from Killinarden Community School were engaged, playful, funny, and curious, and we loved having them for the day in the Writing Centre.
