A "cold snap" is the opposite of a "heatwave" and we are having one right now! It's 1°C ("one degree") right now and they say it will stay that way for a week.

Older Irish people ask everyone where they are from all the time. It means "what town" or "what street". Then, after that, if they know the town/street, they list everyone they know from there and ask if you know those people.
This confused me for a long time because I thought they meant "what country" and I used to answer "Ireland!" and then we were both confused.
In Ireland autumn traditionally starts on the first of August.
Meteorologists say autumn starts on the first of September in the northern hemisphere.
In the US they say autumn starts today (23 of September), the autumn equinox.
Not at all confusing!
(Note: days and months get capital letters but seasons don't)
