“Why I Founded Five Rings Martial Arts in Dublin”
The journey behind Five Rings Martial Arts is deeply personal. After the passing of my Sifu, John, in 2020, I made a promise to honor his legacy. As his only remaining senior student, I committed to teaching and continuing the art he passed on to me while blending it with my own martial arts knowledge.
With a 5th Dan black belt in Ju-Jitsu, I’ve integrated elements of this discipline into the system to complement the principles and techniques John taught. The result is a well-rounded, principle-based martial art that emphasizes:
✅ Striking and trapping as its core foundation.
✅ Grappling, groundwork, and weapons training (primarily stick and knife).
✅ Essential principles like angles, leverage, positioning, structure, and sensitivity.
At its heart, Five Rings Martial Arts is about practicality, self-defense, and continual growth. The system thrives on testing, exploring, and striving for efficiency—just as my Sifu believed.
