Five top tips to conserve water in your garden during the hosepipe ban:
1. Place ice cubes on to the soil of your potted plants. This will minimise water wastage and the ice will slowly melt to water your plants.
2. If you are watering your plants with a watering can, you should do so in the early morning or evening, to limit evaporation.
3. Try to recycle your water. Use a bowl for washing your dishes and then re-use it to water your plants.
4. Mow your lawn less frequently during the ban as longer grass deals better with drought. Even if the grass dries out and develops brown patches, it is very durable and it can fully recover again when the rain eventually falls.
5. Consider investing in a water butt for a year round water conservation option. A water butt collects rainwater and it can be a cost-effective and more environmentally friendly, way to look after your plants year-round.
