CLIL AI is an Erasmus+ project bringing together schools and teacher trainers from across Europe to explore how technology can support teachers in combining subject teaching with language learning in everyday classrooms.
In November, Tomasz and I travelled to Perugia for Phase 3 of the project to work with our partners at ITTS A. Volta and to see how the platform is being used with students. The focus was on real classroom use, observing lessons, listening to teachers and students, and gathering practical feedback.
We saw the platform used in different ways, from project based coding classes to interactive language activities and more teacher led lessons. Across all settings, students were actively engaged and using English in meaningful ways.
A big thank you to Laura, Francesco, Frida and the Volta team for their openness, insights and hospitality. Everything we observed is now feeding directly into the next stage of development.
More updates soon.

ITTS "A.Volta" Perugia
🎓✨ This year, our CLIL & AI Project partners at ITTS A. Volta participated in Didacta Italia, Italy’s most important fair on education and innovation.
With over 400 workshops, seminars, and training events, and more than 300 companies and institutions in attendance, Didacta is a key platform for exchanging new ideas in teaching and learning.
📍 Volta presented their work at the MIM stand (Ministero dell’Istruzione e del Merito), where they showcased our Erasmus+ project:
"Empowering Teachers with AI: A CLIL Integration Project".
🧠💬 Their talk, "From Algorithm to Art – How Artificial Intelligence Can Stimulate Students' Linguistic Creativity", highlighted how AI is being used across both technical and humanistic subjects to develop students’ language skills, creativity, and critical thinking. They demonstrated tools like text-to-image generation and shared strategies for integrating foreign languages into technical pathways—while also emphasizing the power of international collaboration.
📸 Photos include their principal, Fabiana Cruciani, and a moment with Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara.

📢 Enhancing CLIL with AI
We’re excited to share an update on the CLIL AI Project, a collaboration between Teacher Academy Ireland and Istituto Tecnico Industriale Statale Alessandro Volta as part of Erasmus+.
This project is designed to support teachers by developing AI-powered tools that make CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) easier to implement in the classroom.
What This Means for Teachers
If you teach a subject through a second language, the CLIL AI Project aims to provide tools to help:
✔ Simplify subject-specific texts for different language levels
✔ Generate CLIL activities automatically based on your content
✔ Adapt lesson plans to better integrate language and subject learning
Project Progress & Next Steps
📌 The first phase, a Language Text Converter, has already been tested—an update will follow next week!
📌 Next, we’ll develop an AI-powered Activities Generator and Lesson Plan Converter to further support CLIL teaching
📌 The project follows an agile, sprint-based approach, ensuring teacher feedback is at the center of development.

Embodied Language Teaching: learning languages through the body, not the book. Our participants explored intonation through rythym and dance, visited the pronunciation gym, and experimented with teaching grammar through movement, gestures and emotional context. Language is an embodied skill.

Teaching Languages through Local Tales, Stories and Myths. This course started with exploring our most personal stories- the origins of our names. Participants shared the translated meanings of their names as well as the reason they were given them, then created living sculptures to represent them. We had some fabulous names: " Light of the North, She who Brings Happiness, Forest Dryad and Child of Chrystal"- the stuff of legends!
