Say hello to your new favourite move — the DNS Star.
Three years ago I gave this to my clients and they nearly fired me.
Three years later, I still work with some of the same women, and they won’t start a session without it.
Niamh — my fifty-three-year-old legend who’s been calling herself “stiff” since, oh I dunno, 2009 — got out of the car last week without doing the noise.
You know the noise.
The oof.
The brace when you get out of a chair and your hips have a little meeting about whether they’re coming with you.
So let me tell you what this move is actually for:
– Getting up off the floor without using the coffee table as a winch
– Sitting cross-legged at a picnic without immediately regretting the picnic
– Picking up the shopping bag that fell behind the driver’s seat without having to get out of the car
– The second flight of stairs feeling like the first
Three rounds. Five reps each side. Slow enough that you’ll feel a bit ridiculous.
Before every other session or just when you wake up.
Then one day you’ll do something normal —
carry a toddler up a hill, kneel down to plant something, twist round in your seat to talk to someone in the back — and realise your body didn’t make a sound.
