The summer holidays are around the corner. Rory is cramming for his exams. He has to cover the whole year’s work in a week and a half! Good luck with that, Rory!

It’s the Eurovision Song Contest! Are you watching it? The biggest song competition ever! This year, Ireland didn’t make it into the finals. We’ve won it seven times, but we haven’t won it since 1996.
When Mac asks where is Johnny when we need him, he means Johnny Logan. Johnny won the Eurovision three times for Ireland (twice by performing the winning song, and once writing the winning song). Yes, where is Johnny? We do need him!

It was very sunny this morning. But it doesn’t matter: it’s still too cold for Mac to get into the sea!

In the spring, when the days start getting longer, people here say, “There’s a grand stretch in the evening!” Today, the sun set at 8.23pm in Dublin. Every day lengthens by 4 minutes until June 21st, when the sun sets around 10.00pm, and then they start getting shorter again.

It’s a beautiful spring day. But Rory is on his phone…again! Mac wants to go out to play ball. Get off that phone, Rory!

To get off something means to stop using it. We use it a lot for devices… get off the phone, get off the computer, get off the PlayStation.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! It’s a big celebration here in Ireland. Towns and villages all over the country have their parades - and the one in Dublin is really good! But as usual, it’s cold and raining. Mac doesn’t like standing in the rain and cold, especially when he can’t see the parade through people’s legs. How can he get out of going this year?

To get out of doing something means to avoid doing something.

Rory found some old photos of Mac. They talk about all the things Mac used to do when he was a puppy! Check out the full story in www.macandrory.com and learn about using “used to”.

We are still on the theme of LOVE this week. It’s the mid-term break and Dad has dragged Mac and Rory to the Museum of Literature in Dublin city centre. Rory, as usual, is finding it very boring! But he sees a quote from James Joyce. Joyce is one of Ireland’s greatest writers but most people find him very difficult to understand. Do his words make sense to you?

Rory’s Mum always sends him a Valentine’s card. Rory never guessed who it was from… until today! Mum, you’ve been caught out! Looks like Mac got one too. But Mum didn’t send that one!

Oops! We had a typo! Did you notice? 10 points to you if you did! We’ve corrected it now. So, this is a bank holiday weekend in Ireland, but there’s still housework to do. Rory’s Dad asked him to hang the washing on the clothes line… but Rory has something else to do first.
