As East New Britain is a matrilineal society over half of our suppliers are women who rely on this as their main form of income.

Much of the cacao beans produced in Papua New Guinea is by small farmers like Helen who rely on this money to pay for school fees, who I met on my last trip to Bogia in Madang.
After fermenting the cocoa beans they are left to dry naturally in the sun for 2 weeks, this is when they change colour from reddish brown to dark brown and start to take in the delicious aroma we associate with cocoa.
All of cocoa beans are ethically sourced and benefit farmers just like Helen.
