The issue was never that I lacked creativity or talent.

I was just approaching the whole thing backwards.

Choosing projects because they looked impressive.
Because they suited other people.
Because I thought I should like them.

Instead of starting with:
what already felt natural to wear,
what I already reached for,
and what genuinely suited my life and body.

That changed everything.

Because once I understood that, the whole process stopped feeling so overwhelming.

Projects became clearer.
Clothes became more wearable.
And I stopped feeling like I was constantly making things that looked better in theory than they did on me.

If you’ve been feeling like maybe this “just isn’t for you”…

please question that thought.

Because it might not be a fact.

It might just mean you’ve never been shown the right starting point ✨

of the most frustrating parts of trying to make your own clothes is feeling like you’re almost there…but still not fully connecting with what you make.

You save ideas.
You buy fabric.
You start projects excitedly.

And then somewhere in the middle:
you overthink it,
change direction,
or finish something that technically works…but still doesn’t quite feel like you.

And honestly?
I don’t think that usually comes down to lack of talent.

Most women are trying to learn “how to make clothes” before they’ve really been shown how to understand:
what they actually wear,
what silhouettes already suit them,
and what genuinely fits into their real life.

That changes everything AND once you start there, projects stop feeling so random.

The process feels clearer.
Less intimidating.
And much more wearable.

That’s a huge part of what I cover inside Fashion Design Foundations ✨

There’s a very specific kind of frustration that comes from spending time making something…

and already knowing you probably won’t wear it.

Not because it’s badly made.

Not because you’re untalented.

But because nobody really teaches women how to approach making clothes in a way that starts with themselves first.

I spent a long time thinking:
maybe I just needed more confidence,
more practice,
more experience.

But honestly?

The real shift wasn’t sewing more.

It was understanding:
what I naturally reach for,
what actually feels good on me,
and what genuinely fits into my real life.

That changed everything.

Because once I started there, the whole process stopped feeling so random.

Projects became clearer.
Clothes became more wearable.
And I stopped feeling like I was constantly making things that looked better in theory than they felt in real life.

If you’ve been trying hard and still feeling stuck…

it might not be your effort that needs to change.

It might just be your starting point ✨

A few years ago, I genuinely thought the answer was:
more practice,
more confidence,
more experience.

Because I could make things…

but I still kept ending up with clothes that didn’t fully feel like me, which was bloody frustrating l.

Spending time making something…
only to try it on and already know you probably won’t reach for it again.

The thing I wish someone had told me sooner is this:

that usually isn’t a talent problem.

A lot of women are creating clothes based on:
what looks good on other people,
what seems impressive,
or what they think they should wear…

instead of starting with themselves first.

What they already naturally reach for.
What already feels comfortable.
What genuinely fits into their real life.

That changes everything.

Because once you understand that part, the whole process feels clearer.
Less intimidating.
And much more wearable.

That’s a huge part of what I cover inside Fashion Design Foundations ✨

I say this with a lot of love: the problem usually isn’t sewing.
It’s making the wrong things.

I think a lot of women end up believing they need:
more practice,
more confidence,
or more experience first…when really, they’ve just never been shown how to approach creating clothes in a way that actually connects to them.

So they choose projects based on:
what looks impressive,
what other people are making,
or what they think they should wear…and then wonder why the finished piece still feels slightly disconnected.

Not badly made.

Just… not fully them.

That’s why I think understanding your own style, shape, and the clothes you already naturally reach for matters so much.

Because once you start there, the whole process changes.

Things feel clearer.
More wearable.
Less intimidating.
That’s usually when handmade clothes stop feeling like random projects…and start becoming part of your real wardrobe

The most useful thing I ever did when it came to creating clothes I actually wore… wasn’t learning more techniques.

It was stopping a few things that were quietly making the whole process feel harder than it needed to be.

I stopped:
choosing projects just because they looked impressive,
consuming endless inspiration before starting,
and treating every piece like it needed to prove something.

At the time, all of those things felt productive.

But really, they were just making me:
overthink more,
second-guess myself,
and feel intimidated before I’d even properly begun.

What changed everything was focusing more on:
what I naturally reach for,
what already feels good on me,
and what genuinely fits into my real life and wardrobe.

That’s when clothes stopped feeling experimental
and started becoming wearable.

I think a lot of women would genuinely love to make their own clothes…

but the idea of actually starting feels weirdly intimidating.

Not because they’re not creative enough.

Usually because they’ve convinced themselves every piece has to turn out amazing straight away.

Like it has to be:super original, perfectly made,or somehow worth all the time they’re putting into it.

So before they even start, they’re already thinking:“What if I spend all this time on it… and it still doesn’t feel like me?”

And honestly, I completely understand that fear.

Because nobody really talks enough about making clothes in a way that actually connects to your real life.

The clothes you already reach for.The shapes you already feel good in.The things you’d genuinely wear on an ordinary day.

That’s the part that changes everything.

Because once you stop trying to create some fantasy version of a wardrobe…

and start paying attention to what already feels natural to you…the whole process feels much less overwhelming and much more wearable.

That’s a huge part of what I teach inside Fashion Design Foundations.
