Actually, Switch on Happy has been going for over a year now but the strange times we live in called for an "under the radar" approach. Many found it challenging to be free from fears, anxieties or worries during this time and sharing all the simple information on how to switch on happiness, contentment, peace and great health for yourself sometimes felt at odds with what was going on in the world

I shared a video about the work being done by the Freedom Flotilla. My sister Aoife wanted to donate her time and experience as a nurse in conflict zones by spending one week on the boat. She has such a huge heart that she stayed. It's having a big impact financially as she left her paid work behind for a while. The boat is now so close to Gaza with crucial aid, food and medical supplies. Any amount that you can donate that would enable Aoife to continue with the boat until Gaza is so so appreciated.

This is pretty wild! I learned about a very recent (Feb 2024) study with a number of female researchers during an English lesson with a Japanese student a few days ago. The findings intrigued me so much that I had to track down the exact study and read it myself (it's below). My interest was piqued because I couldn't quite accept what the article said and my older Japanese student was also incredulous; women can exercise less than men per week yet reap more gains when it comes to !

The group studied was certainly of a good size - over 400,000 participants with a mean age of 43.9 (+/- 16.6 years) - and spread over a good period of time - 2 decades. Staggeringly, mortality risk lowered by 24% in women and only 15% in men. It took men 5 hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity to reach their maximum survival benefit yet only took women 2.5 hours to reach the same. Muscle strength benefit? It took men 3 sessions per week to reach their peak benefit whilst only taking women 1 session per week!

For once, the new data is encouraging for women. My hope is that this information will encourage more women to take up activities that they love (of course I recommend Zumba!) and take the time for themselves to incorporate those activities into their lives. The benefits are incredible and we reap those rewards in less time than men.

Taking into consideration too the fact that general nutrition and lifestyle tends to be much healthier in Europe than it is in the USA, I would guess that the benefits would be even greater were this study to be replicated in Europe or elsewhere outside of the USA.

When days get a little crazy and off-kilter, as they often do - it’s called 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 - I’m always so grateful when that day started with getting grounded, getting into nature/the sea, walking barefoot, having time for my thoughts to calm or rise up or by pondered (depending on whether it’s meditation or journaling that morning) … just making sure my days have a solid foundation for whatever the day ahead holds for me.

This Sunday morning has been more of a working one but I had a gorgeous breakfast with two of my favourite men last Sunday 😉 Dr Chatterjee speaking with ZACH BUSH MD. Zach makes all his listeners realise how fascinating we humans are. I’ve been listening to him for several years and his knowledge about the wonderful interplay of bacteria and viruses within us changed how I felt about the micro biome years ago and contributed to my never feeling any fears about the great unmentionable 😉 of the past few years.

These are the little nutrition superheroes we came up with in a previous business. The company is no more but I still use these genius ways of reframing foods and what they do, to this day.

Seeing food only in terms of protein/fat/carbs or worse, only in terms of caloric value, is so unhelpful and uninspiring.

When you know what food truly does - how it can help or hinder your body, your repair and recovery, your longevity, even your mood! - you really are in the driver’s seat regarding your aims. My aims are flexibility, fluidity, functioning, pain-free and longevity. What are yours? 🥰
