This week, our 2nd Year Biology students explored the fascinating world of genetics, developing a deeper understanding of how characteristics are passed from one generation to the next. Did you know? The “father of genetics” was a Catholic priest named Gregor Mendel, whose experiments with pea plants helped shape our understanding of inheritance!

Our 2nd Year Biology course is carefully designed to build strong foundational knowledge and to prepare students for the Combined Sciences IGCSE examination, which they will have the option to sit in 4th Year.

As part of their Gaeilge lessons, the Junior and Senior Infants learn to recite or sing nursery rhymes every week.

This week, the Senior Infants have been practising 'Seó Shín Seó', a beautiful traditional Irish lullaby. We hope the children have enjoyed practising the words and melody while also developing their confidence and vocabulary in Irish!

This week, our 1st Year students completed Act 2 of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.

They explored Brutus’s internal struggle, analysing how he decides to join the conspiracy to kill Caesar despite having no personal grievance against him. They also looked at how Shakespeare uses imagery—such as the 'serpent’s egg'—to show Brutus’s fear of what Caesar might become and how he justifies joining the conspiracy.

Their close reading and analysis then culminated in a Socratic seminar, where they discussed the morality of Brutus joining the conspiracy and whether his actions are driven more by honour or by manipulation.

This week, our 2nd Year students are examining Cormac's Chapel as part of their Art studies. Widely regarded as the finest and most ornate expression of the Romanesque style in Ireland, the chapel represents a pivotal moment in the development of Irish ecclesiastical architecture.

Through close visual analysis and historical contextualisation, students are exploring how Cormac’s Chapel embodies the transition toward a more European architectural language while maintaining distinctive regional craftsmanship.
