Feminism and Ethics in P**n
Having been influenced by the delights of Eurotrash as a teenager, Caroline West went on to gain an MA in Sexuality studies and is now is finishing up her PhD looking at the experiences of women working in the p**n industry, and how feminism looks at those experiences. Her research also looks at the relationship between power, s*x and knowledge, and how ethical p**n research really is.
Relationships with Music: A Trust-Building process
Our second researcher is Jodi Mathieu, from Gloucester, Massachusetts (about an hour north of Boston) and carried out her research in Music Studies @ UCC. Generation X has been named the least nurtured, and least supported generation of all US history, with 43% of children facing parental/caregiver absenteeism before and after school. Children age 3-16 were at home for many hours by themselves every day for many years; this chronic lack of guidance or connection was traumatic. She seeks to explore how music became a trusted-other that served as a replacement guidance tool for Latchkey Children.
Can Cleaning Cause Contamination?
Billy McCarthy, a 3rd year PhD student, studies one of these contaminants, chlorate, which can impact the blood and the thyroid. He hopes of gain better understanding why chlorate gets into food and develop ways to ensure food safety.
We hope to see you there and hear some research that is going on, over a pint!

Relationships with Music: A Trust-Building process
Our second researcher is Jodi Mathieu, from Gloucester, Massachusetts (about an hour north of Boston) and carried out her research in Music Studies @ UCC. Her research primarily focuses on the intuitive relationships people form with music through traumatic experiences. Her focus group is Generation X's American Latchkey Children, those born between 1960 and 1980.
The cleaning processes used in the food industry, are vital in the production of micro-biologically safe products for human consumption. The question remains, however, is there potential for the introduction of new contaminants of a chemical nature?
Billy McCarthy, a 3rd year Ph.D. student, studies one of these contaminants, chlorate, which can impact the blood and the thyroid. He hopes to gain a better understanding of why chlorate gets into food and develop ways to ensure food safety.
