The Linenhall held a Lego Workshop and an Art Creativity Workshop over three days. The concept behind these workshops was “Build Your Own Town.” We provided the attendees with a plan of an area in Castlebar and asked them to create their own spaces within it.

With great delight, they disregarded my instructions and proceeded to build everything they wanted in their spaces, rather than the town as a cohesive whole. We ended up with pizza shops, fire stations, police stations, and airports. Angel had the idea of linking the premises together, and I was dispatched to print some roads.

The project was a resounding success, and we invited the parents to see their future engineers. We also received a visit from the Town Engineer, who was very impressed with their work. The most memorable quote from him was, “From my perspective, I tend to think of car parks for the town, whereas what we should be considering is what all of you have built here today.”

Can’t wait for the next one, thanks to for the space and Angela for your help on the day. Watch this space for more workshops from her ;)

Today marks the completion of a six week long project with the Castlemaine Family Resource Center in which MakerMeet got funding from Creative Ireland and Kerry County Council for the creative communities fund to create a geodesic beehive hut dome, all working together. The people put together the spars and then ultimately created the geodesic dome.
