Here’s a quick story about a Bass with Houdini level escapology skills…

Bass hooked on a Auturie 130? Surface Lure and brought to the kayak,

Pic 1 - Unbeknown to me the tried and tested lure clip has opened as the Bass violently tries to eject the lure whilst still in the water!

Pic 2 – The now open clip + leader falls off the lure without me noticing ☹

Pic 3 – The Bass has now ejected the unattached €30 lure, never to be seen again!

Note - This Bass was released in perfect condition, as has every other Bass caught by us this season 😉

Treat this Bass with extra caution if you happen to meet it, increased vigilance required! 😊

Delighted with my new fold up  net for the kayak from the ever reliable .ie It seemed pretty humongous at first but a lot of surface caught Bass come off at the boat which, unless it’s a new PB, 😯 is fine for me (Quick and easy release) but if it’s a guest’s fish and the only one he or she hooks all trip – Not so much!! So a bit of extra scoopage and an extending handle, combined with a soft rubber mesh for fish welfare and the ability to fold it up for the trip home within the cramped confines of a kayak cockpit, are all benefits well worth having imo...

Managed to sneak out for a quick trip to close out what has been an unusual season of 2022 weather wise, but with also some great fishing to be had at times. On this occasion the fish seemed to have been waiting to feed for as long as I’d been waiting to get out and fish for them judging on the action which was fast and furious on lure and fly with some monster West Cork Po***ck, one of which was well into double figures... 🎣
