Meet Our New Head Girl: Abbie Magahran
St. Mogues College is delighted to introduce Abbie Magahran from Feedarragh, Belturbet, as our Head Girl for the 2026/2027 school year!
A former student of Greaghrahan National School, Abbie has embraced the opportunities available to her at St. Mogues College and has demonstrated a strong commitment to school life, leadership and community involvement.
Abbie sees her appointment as an opportunity to support school initiatives, encourage student participation and help create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone.
Through her involvement in Transition Year activities, she has developed valuable leadership skills, further strengthened by her commitment to martial arts and her willingness to assist younger students. Describing herself as confident and approachable, Abbie places great importance on listening to others, respecting different opinions and ensuring that students feel comfortable sharing their ideas.
Her contribution to school life is evident through her involvement in a wide range of initiatives, including Student Enterprise, the TRAD programme, The Big Idea, the weather-station project, the Cupán Tae Club and Climate Café. She has also demonstrated a strong sense of community through volunteering at a local day centre.
Outside school, Abbie continues to show leadership and dedication through her involvement in her martial arts club, where she assists younger members and judges competitions. She also works locally in SuperValu, reflecting her willingness to contribute to her community.
For Abbie, being Head Girl is about much more than holding a title. It is about representation, listening, leadership and working with others to make St. Mogues College an even more positive place for students and staff.
We congratulate Abbie on her appointment and wish her every success in the year ahead! 👏 We look forward to seeing her enthusiasm, approachability and commitment to student voice make a positive difference throughout the school year.

🎓 Meet Our New Head Boy – Rory Dolan
St. Mogues College is delighted to introduce Rory Dolan from Bofealan, Ballyconnell, as our Head Boy for the 2026/2027 school year!
A past pupil of St. Mogues Primary School, Rory joined St. Mogues College in 2021 and has been actively involved in school life ever since. Having served two terms as Year Representative, contributed to the Student Council and captained sports teams, Rory has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and representing his fellow students.
Rory believes that good leadership starts with listening. He is passionate about ensuring that students’ ideas are heard and that their voices are represented within the school community.
His involvement extends beyond the school gates, with contributions to Tidy Towns, GAA, the Bawnboy Festival and the Pope John Paul II Award, through which he achieved the Silver Award.
For Rory, being Head Boy is about much more than a title. It is about responsibility, communication and being available to support others. He also recognises the importance of attendance and punctuality in setting a positive example for the wider student body.

Strike Taking Place; School Closed 14th October
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) has been informed that members of a number of recognised unions (TUI, ASTI, INTO, FÓRSA, SIPTU, AHCPS) have been directed to take strike action on Wednesday 14 October 2026. Pickets may be placed on schools, colleges or centres where members of the relevant union or unions are employed on that day.
Following a detailed assessment of the implications of the strike action on the operation of the school/centre, management in consultation with CMETB has reluctantly decided that it cannot guarantee the health and safety of learners on the school/centre premises on that day as CMETB will not be in a position to ensure the care and supervision of learners in St. Mogue’s College.
Therefore, we are informing you not to send your child the school/centre on Wednesday 14 October 2026.

This decision has been made having regard to CMETB’s responsibility for the care, safety and welfare of learners. The school/centre will provide any further updates if the position changes.
The school/centre will reopen to receive learners on Thursday 15 October 2026.

Yours sincerely
Dr Fiona McGrath
Chief Executive

Shannonside Northern sound school visit
Shannonside Northern Sound visited our school last Friday to interview some of our students and teachers involved in the farming sector. Several groups of students from 3rd year to 6th year attended the recent Tractor Safety workshops. Thanks to Kieran McGovern for facilitating this over the last few weeks raising awareness to such an important issue.
