UNDERAGE ACTION FOR THE WEEK AHEAD!!

Lots of action for the younger ages, the highlight being the U14 GIRLS LGFA (CASTLE-ANNASCAUL) who play their Divisional Final on Friday evening next, hosting Killarney's Dr Crokes. Throw in at Annascaul is at 7pm.
On Sunday evening, a new competition for the U13s where CASTLE travel to play Ballymacelligott.

A hard fought draw for our Senior Ladies in their opening championship game against Churchill

Next game is at home to Beale on Sunday 6th September in Castle

JUNIOR PREMIER CHAMPIONSHIP - GROUP 4 - Rd 3

CASTLEGREGORY 2-18

Top of the table clash in this championship group saw Castlegregory claw back an 11 point half time deficit and secure a home quarter final as a result of scoring difference.

Both teams played a cagey opening quarter with scores from Maurice,Paudie and Cian keeping us in touch . Senans drove on and tagged on points before Greg Fitz delivered a peach of a pass into Paudie who smashed home for a great goal.
That was as good as it got for Castlegregory as Senans were rampant for the second quarter with the Western lads chasing shadows to trail at the break :

Whatever was said at ht behind closed doors saw Castlegregory match and raise their opponents intensity.
All over the pitch players drove on. The backs got considerably tighter led by Tim Moriarty, Eoghan Lyne and Jack Shan with Eoin K drilling out some excellent kickouts.
Caolan dominated midfield with some spectacular catches and the hard work of Conor, Brandon, Greg and Gearoid saw us reduce the deficit through scores from Maurice, Cian and Paudie.
Castle gave themselves a fighting chance with 12 minutes remaining when Eoin K picked out Cian, who darted through the Senans defense, playing a one two with Brandon before finishing low and hard to the back of the net. Game on now .
Senans tried hard but with the defense eager to atone for the second quarter,the home side struggled over immense pressure. Time up saw Castle win a free and the unerring Cian split the posts with a two pointer to gain a draw in the most dramatic fashion.

The draw was a fitting result between two excellent teams who served up forty scores in a fantastic advert for the game.

It was great to see Maurice Slattery back in a Castlegregory jersey after a few years away in Australia.

A huge tonic for everyone back West and especially the fantastic support that travelled to Mountcoal.

The club would like to wish Thomas O Donnell all the best in the coming weeks as he prepares for surgery after an unfortunate injury against Reenard last weekend. The morning of that game he had been down along with Maurice O Connell coaching the underage so that tells you all you need to know about Thomas who will no doubt come back better and stronger in the future.

U12s HAVE A GREAT DAY DOWN IN THE REBEL COUNTY!!

CASTLE U12s travelled to Cork yesterday to play a couple of cracking of football games with Glanmire GAA U12s (Big thanks for the wonderful hospitality received) and then travelled on to Fota Wildlife Park for further adventures.
A great bunch of players and, a great day out and a special thanks to all the parents who helped make the day possible!!

U16 GIRLS LOSE OUT TO SOUTHERN GAELS MID WEEK

A two point loss and the team photo straight afterwards tells you all you need to know about this fixture in Valentina mid week just gone by.

A/C despite playing with a strong breeze were sluggish to start and conceded 1-1 before Saoirse and Andrea got the scoreboard ticking over. Andrea then expertly drilled home a goal but Southern Gaels hard running saw them raise two more green flags as we kept in touch with Kayla chipping in with 1-1. End to end stuff saw Gaels score a fourth before Niamh responded with two points. A couple of positional switches worked a treat with Lia, Tara, Muireann M, Caoimhe, Orla and Èabha all tightening up at the back and Aoife getting some good kickouts off to leave the half time score:

Playing into the elements now ,A/C rattled off the first three points through Andrea, Niamh and Lily as Muireann C, Aoibhinn,Jena, Elena,Èabha,and Jemma worked tirelessly. That hard work was rewarded when Niamh slipped in Andrea to score our third goal.
Muireann M,Lia ,Orla Èabha, Kayleigh , Caoimhe and Tara battled gamely but Southern Gaels notched a goal and a few points to pull away.
Orlaith O D,now in goals pulled off a great save as Kayla thundered forward for a great score and A/C kept going as Andrea danced her way through to raise a huge green flag. Two points now in it but despite a goal chance and a far out free A/C couldn't close the gap.

Thanks to Southern Gaels for the game which was well overseen by Ref Maurice Murphy.

Thanks to our Captain on the evening Muireann Curran and all her team mates on a fantastic effort .

Many thanks to Anne Marie Curran who was our FLO on the evening and most of all huge credit to our players and many parents who made the five and a half hour round trip to Valentia. It's huge to have that support.

Not all was lost on the evening as the A/C girls have now after finishing third in Division 1 table and find themselves qualified for the League semi finals.

Opposition and dates will be confirmed early next week
