A massive congratulations to our Leaving Cert Class of 2026 on their extraordinary results!

Special recognition goes to Cara Mullen, Cara McDonagh, Sophie McGrath, Aoife Boylan, and Juwaria Baqer, who all achieved over 625 points - a phenomenal result! (Pictured are four of these outstanding top achievers). They are now heading off to pursue an incredible range of fields, from Veterinary Medicine to Theoretical Physics!

We are also thrilled to feature some of our students who secured over 550 points, alongside representatives from the amazing 30% of our entire Class of 2026 who achieved over 500 points!

These results reflect years of hard work, discipline, and passion. To all of our high achievers and every single member of the Class of 2026, we are so proud of you. We wish you the very best of luck in all your future endeavors!

Today marks a very special milestone for one of our 6th Year students and a landmark moment for inclusive education.

We are immensely proud of Melinda Dakurah, who today became the first student in Loreto Balbriggan to receive SEC certification for the Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme.

This is a landmark year for education nationally. For the first time, students who have completed Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Programmes are receiving results and certification which recognise the learning, progress and achievements they have made throughout their second-level education.

Today is also an important day for Melinda’s twin sister, Melissa, who received her Leaving Certificate results. Together, the sisters reach the end of their secondary school journey and an important chapter in their lives.

We are enormously proud of both girls and wish them every happiness and success as they take their next steps beyond Loreto.

Today is a day to recognise achievement in all its forms and to celebrate an education system in which the learning, progress and achievements of every student are recognised and valued.

We are so proud of all that you have achieved. Whatever today brings, take a moment to be proud of yourselves and to recognise the hard work, determination and perseverance that have brought you to this point, as well as the friendships, experiences and memories you have made along the way.

We would like to wish our Class of 2026 the very best of luck as they receive their Leaving Certificate results tomorrow.

Whatever tomorrow brings, we hope they are proud of all they have achieved and look forward with confidence and excitement to all that lies ahead.

We know that, wherever the next step of their journey takes them, they will continue to “Do good and do it well.”

Getting Ready for the New School Year – School Book Collection

There has been lots happening behind the scenes in Loreto Balbriggan over the summer as we get ready to welcome our students back for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Our gym is currently packed with books, boxes and stationery, with thousands of items being sorted, organised and prepared for students across all year groups. Our librarian, Jane, and her Team have been incredibly busy over the summer coordinating this huge task, making sure that books and stationery are sorted, packed and ready for every student. As you can see from the photos, it has been quite an operation.

Students can collect their books and stationery on the following dates:

1st Year: Thursday, 20th August 9:30am – 3:30pm
5th Year: Friday, 21st August 9:30am – 3:30pm
2nd Year: Monday, 24th August 9:30am – 3:30pm
3rd Year: Monday, 24th August 9:30am – 3:30pm
TY: Tuesday, 25th August 9:30am – 3:30pm
6th Year: Tuesday, 25th August 9:30am – 3:30pm

1st and 5th Year students in particular will be collecting a considerable number of books and supplies, and their boxes can be very heavy. Please note that school lockers will not be available on collection days, so all books and supplies collected will need to be brought home.

We strongly recommend that students arrange transport by car where possible or bring a sturdy trolley or suitcase with wheels to make transporting their books home a little easier.

The countdown to the new school year is well and truly on, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Loreto Balbriggan very soon!

Celebrating a Remarkable Year: Transition Year Prizegiving!

What an unforgettable week we have had celebrating our Transition Year Class of 2026 at their official Prizegiving and Graduation ceremonies. It was a wonderful time of reflection, looking back on a year packed with growth, new experiences, and incredible achievements.

Alongside the celebrations, we were delighted to host the TY Prizegiving, celebrating students who have gone above and beyond this year.

We are incredibly proud to announce our major TY award winners:

Transition Year Student of the Year: Awarded to Abbie Tierney for her exceptional overall contribution, enthusiasm, and commitment to the entire TY program.

The TY Mary Ward Student of the Year: Awarded to Abbie Leonard. This honour acknowledges the student who has truly lived out the core values of our founder, Mary Ward: Justice, Joy, Freedom, Sincerity, and Truth.

Transition Year Sports Person of the Year: Awarded to Sophie Neurohr for outstanding athletic performance, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the year.

A massive congratulations to all our award winners and to the entire Transition Year group. You have embraced every opportunity this year threw at you, and we wish you the absolute best as you prepare to step into Senior Cycle!

Excellence and Fond Farewells: Senior Prizegiving!

We gathered to celebrate our Senior Prizegiving, a truly special afternoon dedicated to honoring the academic excellence, leadership, and outstanding contributions of our senior students.

The ceremony was a beautiful reflection of the leadership that defines our school community. A particularly poignant moment was the official passing of the torch, as our outgoing Head Girls handed over their leadership roles to the newly appointed Head Girls for the coming year. We listened to deeply moving farewell speeches from our outgoing Head Girls, who spoke with eloquence, gratitude, and pride about their time leading the student body.

We are delighted to announce our Senior School award winners:
Senior Student of the Year: Awarded to Megan Nolan in recognition of outstanding academic dedication, integrity, and exemplary overall contribution to life at our school.
The Senior Mary Ward Student of the Year: Awarded to Ally Bell. This premier honor is given to the student who consistently embodies and champions the core values of our founder, Mary Ward: Justice, Joy, Freedom, Sincerity, and Truth.
The Loreto Education Trust JOY Award: Awarded to Bronagh McCormack. The Joy Award is an award given by the Loreto Trust. It is one that acknowledges and celebrates a special person in sixth year who brings joy to their peers, teachers and the school community.
Senior Sports Persons of the Year: Awarded to Ashley Guinan and Lile Tully for exceptional athletic achievement, leadership on the field, and dedication to school sport throughout their senior years.
Spiorad na Gaeilge Award: Awarded to Cerys O’Mahony for outstanding achievement and a passion for our native language.
Senior Business Award: Awarded to Aoife Boylan in recognition of excellence, critical thinking, and insight in business studies.
Senior Music Award: Awarded to Kate Hussey for exceptional musical talent, dedication, and contribution to the musical life of the school.
Senior Science Award: Awarded to Cara Mullen for outstanding academic excellence and curiosity in the field of science.

✨ Celebrating Excellence & Effort! ✨

What an incredible few days of celebration here at Loreto Balbriggan!

Last Friday, our 1st Years marked a massive milestone with their very first Prizegiving ceremony, where we recognised Academic Achievement, Academic Endeavour, and Extra-Curricular involvement. You’ve officially set the bar high!

Today, the spotlight turned to our 2nd and 3rd Years for their Prizegiving. Alongside top-tier academic and endeavour awards, we were thrilled to celebrate our Extra-Curricular Roll of Honour - recognising outstanding student leadership, debating victories, scientific innovation, business enterprise and so much more!

We also presented some of our most prestigious Junior School awards:

The Junior Mary Ward Student of the Year: Awarded to Romi Banim. This honour acknowledges the student who truly embodies the core values of our founder, Mary Ward: Justice, Joy, Freedom, Sincerity, and Truth.

The 2nd Year Spirit Award in honour of Rafaella Costin: Awarded to Aimee Singleton.

This special award, generously donated by her family, is in memory and tribute to Rafaella Costin, who passed away on the 5th of December 2021. During her short time here, Rafaella embraced every aspect of school life. “There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.” This award recognises a student’s outstanding participation in school life and someone who has given generously of themselves to our school community.
Junior Sports Person of the Year: Awarded to Tommitina Tom-Irehovbude for outstanding dedication, skill, and sportsmanship.
A massive congratulations to all our award winners and to every single student who put in the work this year. We are so incredibly proud of you all!
