🌟 Dr. Priskin Gyula lehozta nekünk a csillagokat – az ókori egyiptomi csillagászat nyomában
(For English, please scroll down)
2026. június 25–26. között került sor az Ancient Egyptian Astronomy Meeting 2026 című konferenciára a Royal Astronomical Society székhelyén (Burlington House, Piccadilly, London). A konferenciát Or Graur (Royal Astronomical Society) és Sarah Symons (McMaster University, Kanada) szervezte.
Current Research in Egyptology konferencia Tokióban. Az esemény helyszínéül az Ueno parkban található Tokyo National Research Institute of Cultural Properties épülete szolgált. A konferencia szervezői az egyiptológia területén aktív japán egyetemek munkatársai voltak, a fő részt a University of Tsukuba vállalta magára. A konferencia során mintegy száz kutató tartotta meg előadását vagy állította ki poszterét az egyiptológia változatos témaköreiben. Priskin Gyula előadásában – „A New Identification of Sah in the Sky” – a csillagászati dokumentumokban Ozirisz lépő alakjaként ábrázolt figurát elemezte és bemutatta, hogyan képzelhették el az égbolton az ókori egyiptomiak egyik legfontosabb csillagképüket a modern Orion környékén.

🌟 In pursuit of ancient Egyptian astronomy – Dr Gyula Priskin brought the stars down
The Ancient Egyptian Astronomy Meeting 2026 was held on 25–26 June at the headquarters of the Royal Astronomical Society (Burlington House, Piccadilly, London). The conference was organized by Or Graur (Royal Astronomical Society) and Sarah Symons (McMaster University, Canada). It was the first international conference devoted specifically to the study of ancient Egyptian astronomy. Among the approximately twenty invited speakers was Dr Gyula Priskin, who, in his paper entitled “The Star Patterns of Mesekhtiu,” examined the stellar configurations distinguished by the ancient Egyptians in the region of what is now identified as the constellation of Ursa Major (the Big Dipper).
In July 2026, the 26th Current Research in Egyptology Conference took place in Tokyo from 11 to 15 July. The conference was hosted by the Tokyo National Research Institute of Cultural Properties, located in Ueno Park. The event was organized by scholars from Japanese universities active in the field of Egyptology, with the University of Tsukuba taking the leading role. Approximately one hundred researchers presented papers or posters on a wide range of topics in Egyptology. In his paper, “A New Identification of Sah in the Sky,” Dr Gyula Priskin analyzed the figure represented in Egyptian astronomical documents as the walking figure of Osiris and explored how the ancient Egyptians may have conceptualized one of their most important constellations in the region of the modern constellation of Orion.
